Body-Mass-Index (BMI) je indeks, ki se pogosto uporablja za oceno telesne teže. Indeks se izračuna iz
vrednosti telesne teže in telesne višine, formula pa je sledeča:
Body-Mass-Index =telesna teža : telesna višina². Enota za BMI je torej [kg/m²].

Pri ljudeh, ki imajo zelo mišičasta telesa (body builderji), se indeks telesne mase nahaja v območju previso-
ke teže. Razlog za to je v tem, da precej nadpovprečna mišična masa pri body builderjih v formuli za izra-
čun indeksa telesne mase ni upoštevana.
