Operating the deviceOperating the device

• When the measurement is nished, you will be given another

opportunity to change the memory to which the measured

value is to be saved. To do this, press the Memory button of

the user for whom the measured value is to be saved.

• The device switches itself o after approximately 3 minutes.

You can also switch the device o before this by pressing the

Start/Stop button.

If the acoustic signal is too weak, the microphone integrated in

the cu will not be able to record the Korotko sounds of the

blood ow without errors.

In this case, the measurement values are deter-

mined according to the oscillometric procedure

(see page 38). The measurement values are in-

dicated together with the symbol (Image 5).

In this case, check whether the cu and the mi-

crophone are correctly seated and whether the

microphone jack has been fully inserted into the

device. Repeat the measurement. During the measurement, the

palm of the hand must be turned upwards.

11. Classication of the measured values (WHO)

The device categorises the blood pressure read-

ings according to the 1999 guidelines of the

World Health Organisation (WHO). You can de-

termine the classication after each measure-

ment using the triangle in the display and the

colour elds next to the display.

The WHO classication is stored along with the measured values

and both can be recalled from the memory.

Depending on age, weight and general health, the blood pressure

values can be dierent. Only a doctor can determine the right

blood pressure range for you and assess whether your blood

pressure has reached a dangerous level for you. Discuss your

blood pressure values with your doctor. Never change the dose

of medicines prescribed by your doctor!

The pulse pressure – not to be confused with the pulse beat –

provides an indication of the elasticity of the blood vessels. A sti

system of vessels can have a negative eect on the cardiovascu-

lar system. Studies show that the cardiovascular risk increases if

the pulse pressure value is permanently higher than 65 mmHg.

12. Pulse pressure

The heart works in two phases, the contraction phase (expulsion

phase, systole) and the relaxation phase (lling or resting phase,
