VIDEO Setup
You must select DVD operation mode by pressing the [DVD] button on the remote control.
While DISC STOP or Resume STOP, press [SETUP/ENTER] button.
Selecting TV Aspect.
• If you choose “4:3 PS”, some DVD discs which
have the "pan and scan" feature display only part of
the original “16:9” scene but the picture follows the
centre of the action. Discs that are not pan and scan
show a picture just like "4:3LB".

This means you set the video output standard to suit your
television. Televisions in most of Europe suit PAL video. NTSC
is typically used for discs sold in America and Japan, if you can
play them due to region code restrictions.

Ordinary video is always output on phono sockets. Don't

• Choose "4:3" if you have a conventional television. You can watch the original “16:9”
scene, but the screen area above and below
the picture is blacked out. This achieves correct proportion of objects in the picture when
displaying 16:9 film on a 4:3 screen.
• Choose "16:9" if you have a wide-screen television.
• Films recorded in "4:3" will always be displayed as 4:3, even if you set-up the DVD
player to “16:9 Wide”.
Conventional
television screen format
has width to height ratio
4:3 (or 1.33:1). This is
called the aspect ratio.
Popular wide-screen
televisions have an
aspect ratio of 16:9 (or
1.77:1) . You may note
that some films are
made in different aspect
ratios to either of these,
so even on a wide-
screen TV you still get
black "letterbox" bands
top and bottom !
If the player
converts the video
standard, for example
NTSC to PAL, playback
may not be as smooth
as without conversion.
WATCH OUT !
NTSC is converted to
PAL-60. Some
televisions will not
display PAL-60 or NTSC
video properly. You
might need an NTSC-
compatible television so
you can see the set-up
menu to change the
output back to PAL !
