Firing manual - wood
Your first heating session
When you light up for the first time, you must do it carefully as all materials must be introduced
to the heat gradually. The coating on the stove will be cured the first time the stove is lit, and this
may cause an odour. Ensure adequate ventilation.
Firing (Drawing E4)
1. Turn on the blowers.
2. Open the damper (6). The liner’s automatic system ensures that there is an adequate supply
of primary air.
3. Place 2-3 pieces of firewood (approx. 700 g each) in the bottom. Place approx. 2 kg kindling
wood on top. Between the kindling wood on top place 1-2 firelighters which are lit. Gradually
as the wood is heatened, gasses are released and immediately burnt off. In that way the
temperature rises and more gasses are released. The fire is calmly working its way down
through the tree layer, with no risk of over heating and with a very low degree of pollution.
Keep door slightly open until there is no more condensation on the glass.
Burning (Drawing E5)
When the wood is burning well, the automatic system closes the damper for primary air
gradually. The secondary rinsing air (10) from the door blows across the flames and ensures
that all the gases released are burned. Depending on the composition of the wood and the
chimney draught, the damper (6) in the door can be adjusted until it is only half open, but it
should always be possible for the rinsing air to keep the glass free from soot. The liner will
now emit a regular, effective heat
Burning out (Drawing E6)
4. When the flames have gone out and only embers remain, draw some of the embers forward
towards the door opening before putting in two or three new pieces of wood. You can also
make a little hollow in the layer of embers in the centre beneath the foremost piece of wood
so that some of the primary air can come into contact with the layer of embers beneath the
wood more rapidly.
5. When in continuous use, no further regulation is necessary. This is done automatically.
Important! Do not open ash pan (HWAM Classic 10/60) in the initial firelighting phase and
always keep it closed when the stove is in use.
There should not be a thick layer of ashes in the bottom of the stove insert when star-
ting a heating session. The Vermiculite coating in the combustion chamber is enough
insulation.
