Sliding open the lid of your chest you will see that there are two
compartments. Thanks to these compartments you will later be able to
smuggle the treasure stones past Pete the Pirate.
Now have a look at the game board:
The sailors’ ship is anchored in the bay, put your sailors on it. The bay is
their starting and finishing square.
Distribute the treasure stones between the hiding places. Each player
places a precious stone on each of the five hiding places.
Place Pete the Pirate on the square in the center with the symbol of a
pirate – this square is his starting square.
Close your treasure chests and place each of them on one of the squares
outlined in the corners of the game board. Each player chooses for his or her
chest the square closest to where he or she is sitting.
Note:
On some of the circuit squares you will notice turning arrows.
These arrows are only used for a more difficult game variation, but not for
the standard game.
Get the die ready.
How to play:
The game proceeds in a clockwise direction and each player throws the die
once. The youngest player begins.
On the die either appears a number of dots (1, 2, 3, 4) or the symbol of
the pirate and thus determines whether …
... you move your sailor and collect treasure stones of your color (dots on
the die), or …
... you play the role of Pete the Pirate and hinder the other sailors from
collecting precious stones (symbol of pirate).

Habermaaß Game No. 4174
Pete the Pirate
An exciting memory game for 2 – 4 sailors
ages 6 to 99.
Author: Wolfgang Kramer
Illustrations: Renate Seelig
Length of the game: approx. 15 - 20 minutes.
Dangerous Pete the Pirate has hidden his treasure on a lonely island. Four
brave sailors set off to find it and bring it to their ship. But only the one with
a good memory will be able to smuggle the treasure chest with the precious
booty back to the ship without being noticed by sneaky Pete the Pirate who
always appears.
Contents:
1 pirate (Pete)
4 sailors
4 treasure chests (with two compartments each)
20 precious stones = treasure (5 stones of each colour)
1 game board
1 special die (dots and symbols of pirate)
Aim of the game:
Each sailor tries to get to the different hiding places as quickly as possible
in order to collect the treasure of his or her color and take it safely to the
ship.
Watch out:
During the game the players have to change roles in a clever way:
• If dots are shown on the die, the player is a sailor who tries to collect
the precious stones of his or her color, hiding them away from the eyes
of the pirate and taking them to his or her ship.
• If the pirate is shown on the die, the player becomes the pirate who
is chasing the sailors and trying to hinder them from collecting the
treasure.
Preparation:
Each player chooses a sailor, then takes the precious stones and the
treasure chest of the corresponding color. Close the treasure chest
with the corresponding sliding lid.
If there are less than four players, the sailors, chests and treasure stones not
needed remain in the game box.
