7. Pull the recoil starter (9) lightly until you feel
resistance then pull quickly until the engine
starts (Fig M) (Under full choke it may only
run for 1 or 2 seconds). A smooth rapid pull is
required for a strong spark. Do not pull the cord
with a jerk or release it until fully rewound.
8. Once the engine starts allow to run for 10
seconds.
NOTE: If the engine starts and then stops, even
for 1 sec, move the choke lever (red) (20) to the
mid way position between the full choke and no
choke position and pull the recoil starter (9) to
restart.
WARNING: On start up the oscillating blades
may be operational due to the setting of the
starting throttle. Be well aware of this condition
9. Once the engine is fully warm ensure the choke
lever (red) (20) is down fully to the run position.
(warm start) (Fig N).
10. If the engine fails to start, repeat steps 1
through 9.
NOTE: If the engine fails to start after repeated
attempts, refer to Troubleshooting section.
NOTE: Always pull the recoil starter (9) straight
out. Pulling the recoil starter (9) at an angle will
cause it to rub against the eyelet. This friction
will cause the cord to fray and wear more
quickly. Do not pull the end of the cord, this can
damage the recoil starter (9). Always hold the
recoil starter (9) handle when the cord retracts.
Never allow the cord to snap back from the
extended position. This could cause the cord to
snag or fray and also damage the recoil starter
(9) assembly.
1. Place the hedge trimmer upright on a rm at surface
2. Move the on/o switch (10) to the ON position by pressing the section
of the switch marked with an “I” (Fig H).
3. This hedge trimmer has a 2 position choke: Full Choke and No Choke.
Start position (choke closed / full choke)
Run position (choke open / no choke)
4. Move the choke lever (red) (20) towards the front of the hedge trimmer
(towards the blades) to the full choke or cold start position (Fig I). This
direction also indicated on the housing (Fig J).
NOTE. This is not required if the engine is already warm.
5. Push the primer bulb (19) 6-10 times, until the primer bulb is rm to
press, or until there are no air bubbles visible in the fuel discharge line
(Fig K/L).
NOTE: When the carburettor has sucient fuel for starting, the excess
fuel as you pump the primer bulb (19) is bypassed back into the fuel
tank (15) through the clear fuel line.
NOTE: The primer bulb (19) is located behind the left hand side of the
air lter cover (when viewing from the rear handle end of the unit) and
is located above where the clear and black fuel lines can be seen.
NOTE. For cold starting this is an important step.
6. Check the ignition on/o switch (10) is in the downward ON position as
indicated with an “I” (Fig H).
