Chapter 7 Installation
General installation procedure
The general installation procedure consists of the following steps:
1. Choose the best location for the charging station and position it.
2. Decide how the peripheral wire is to be laid taking into account the characteristics of the
site and the obstacles.
3. Install the peripheral wire(s) and connect them to the charging station.
4. Configure the installation.
7.1 The charging station
There are two methods to enable the robot to return to the charging station when necessary.
These are:
to use a positioning beacon that emits a signal detected by the robot,
to use an additional wire termed the "station loop" to guide the robot back to the station
along the wire.
Some of the topics below refer to just one of the methods.
This chapter covers the following topics:
-Criteria determining the position of the charging station (page 39).
-Station return and exit with a positioning beacon (page 40).
-Return to station with a station loop (page 41)
-Dimensions associated with the charging station (page 42).
-Critical distances for a straight wire (page 42).
-Placement of the charging station (page 44).
-Charging station electronic board (page 44).
-Installing a channel board outside of the charging station (page 46).
-Installing an inductor in the charging station (page 46).
-Selection of charging station type (on the positioning beacon board) (page 47).
7.1.1 Criteria determining the position of the charging
station
An important first step in the installation procedure is to decide where the charging station is
to be located.
The position must suit the situation.
There should be no risk of flooding after heavy rain.
Obstacles must be more than 6m away from the charging station. See also special
considerations for water features (page 57).
The station should sit on flat ground and the entry and exit of robot should be along flat
ground. For more information see Slopes (page 71).
The station should be positioned on a straight section of the peripheral wire with defined
minimum free distances on both the incoming and outgoing sides.
Note: The charging station needs to be connected to an available power supply.
