Chapter 7 Installation
7 Installation
The figure below illustrates the basic components of an installation.
Figure 28: Components of an installation
An area to be mowed (parcel), which is contained within the complete site, is defined by a
peripheral wire. There can be more than one peripheral wire, thus defining multiple fields as
shown in the example below. For more information on the specific terminology and concepts
see using multiple fields (page 60).
A specific example of a multi-field installation is where as addition wire is installed around the
charging station to guide the robot back to the station. See Return to station with a station
loop (page 41).
The charging station can also be located using a station positioning beacon. The positioning
beacon is most commonly placed within the charging station, but may be installed separately.
The peripheral wire(s) define the limits to which the robot will mow. The charging station
generates a signal in the peripheral wire that creates a electro-magnetic field enabling the
robot to detect the field.
Obstacles (page 52) must be avoided. This may be achieved by movements executed
by the robot when a sensor has detected the obstacle. In some cases however this is not
possible, and the only way to avoid obstacles is to create islands (page 58) and pseudo
islands (page 59).
The robot will return to the charging station when the battery needs charging or when the
programmed mowing process is complete. The positioning beacon aids the robot in returning
to the charging station. It is also possible to use a second loop field to guide the robot back to
the charging station (page 60).
See How Turfmow 1000 works (page 21) for details about all the various operating modes
and how the robot transitions from one mode to another.
