Making espresso
1. Fill the water tank with drinking water using the amount of water you require, do not fill beyond
the MAX marker.
2. Place a cup of the size you want under the outlet for the strainer. It is recommended that you
warm the cups before making coffee by rinsing them in hot water.
3. Insert the strainer for ground coffee (1 or 2-cup insert) into the strainer holder.
Before adding the ground coffee, make sure that the strainer is clean and there are no coffee
grounds from previous use.
Fill the strainer a little at a time to prevent spillages.
Note: Normally, for an espresso, use one level spoon of ground coffee (around 9 grams) from the
measuring spoon supplied, or weigh out around 14 grams for 2 cups. However, you can adjust the
amount to suit your taste. We recommend filling the strainer so it is heaped then clearing off the
excess coffee.
4. Distribute the ground coffee evenly and press down with the stopper. Pressing down the ground
coffee correctly is very important in order to make a good espresso. If it is pressed down too firmly,
the coffee runs through too slowly and is strong. However, if it is not pressed down enough, the
coffee runs through too quickly and is weak.
5. Remove excess coffee from the edge of the strainer and slot the strainer holder into the coffee
machine.
6. Use the handle to insert the strainer holder on the front left side of the device (8 o’clock position).
Engage the wide recesses on the strainer holder with the recesses on the brewer head. Turn the
handle as far as possible to the right to ensure the strainer holder engages properly.
7. Press the 1 or 2-cup button `->
to start the brewing process.
Note:
During preparation, you can at any time press the same button again to stop the coffee pouring
out.
To remove the strainer holder, twist the handle from right to left.
Beware of burning! If no espresso comes out of the machine the sieves are probably blocked.
In this case please do not remove the portafilter and wait for approximately one minute till the
pressure inside the machine has dropped.
Making espresso with coffee pods
The device is compatible with all common coffee pods.
Note: For larger coffee pods, we recommend using the 1-cup strainer holder. For espresso pods, use
the pod strainer holder.
1. Insert the strainer for coffee pods into the strainer holder.
2. Place the pad as centrally as possible in the strainer. Note the instructions on the packaging of the
coffee pod for the correct placement of the pod in the strainer.
3. In order to start making coffee, prepare the device by carrying out steps 1-3 under “Making
espresso” and press the 1 or 2 cup button ->
as required.
Beware of burning!
Allow the device to cool down! To avoid getting splashed with hot liquid, never remove the strainer
holder while the machine is making coffee! When it is finished, always wait a few seconds and then
release the filter holder.
Making cappuccino
Make espresso as described above using big enough cups.
4. Move the knob to the preheat steam symbol (G2) ->
, the light ring on the knob lights up red.
Wait for the machine to heat up. The control light on the knob then lights up continuously in
white.
5. Fill a mug just one third full with cold milk to make sure there is enough space for frothing the
milk.
Note:
A tall, narrow mug is best as the whole milk frother should be in the milk without touching the
bottom of the mug. When choosing the size of the milk container, note that the milk volume will
increase by two to three times.
The best milk to use is semi-skimmed at fridge temperature.
6. Twist the frother so that it is not above the collection bowl.
7. Hold the mug of milk directly below the frother so that the end of the foamer is just below the
surface of the milk.
8. Adjust the milk froth knob to (G1) ->
. Steam comes out of the milk frother.
9. Carefully move the mug up and down, making sure the end of the milk frother is in the milk at all
times. Do not take the milk frother out of the milk as it could splash.
10. Continue until you have all the froth you want.
11. Adjust the knob to
.
12. Spread the milk froth over the cup(s) of espresso.
Note:
If you wish to make more than one cappuccino, first make all the coffee, then make the milk froth.
The steam output stops automatically after 60 seconds.
Clean the milk frother and the steam nozzle immediately after use to ensure it does not get
clogged up with milk residue. See “Cleaning the milk frother”.
Cooling the device after frothing milk
Note: In order to avoid burnt coffee, allow the espresso machine to cool down after frothing milk.
Proceed as follows to speed up the cooling process:
1. Place a container under the milk frother:
2. Turn the knob to the output hot water symbol (G4) ->
and output hot water till hot water
stopped.
3. Turn the knob to
4. The device is now once again in standby mode.
Preparing hot water
1. The device is in standby mode.
2. Place a container under the milk frother.
3. Turn the knob to the right to output hot water (G4) ->

frother.

Sleep Mode
The device automatically switches to sleep mode after 30 minutes when it is in standby mode. The
1-cup button ->
lights up in red.
