Solar circuit protection function
If the solar heat exceeds the current heat requirement
(e.g. all cylinders fully charged), the temperature in the
collector array can rise steeply.
When the temperature at the collector sensor exceeds
the safe temperature the solar pump is switched off
before overheating to protect the solar circuit (pump,
valves, etc.). The pump is switched on again after coo-
ling.
This function is performed independently for each coll-
ector array.
When used with the VPM S and the VMS, the setting
parameter is blanked out. The solar pump units have
their own protection function which is always in opera-
tion.
Solar pump kick
Depending on the design, there is a time delay in
measuring the temperature of some collectors, which
can be shortened with the solar pump kick function.
Measured value of collector temperature with active
solar pump kick function:
The solar pump is switched on for 15s (solar pump kick)
if the temperature at the collector sensor >25 °C and
has risen by 2 K/hour. This transports the heated solar
fluid to the point of measurement more quickly.
If the temperature difference between the collector and
the cylinder exceeds the preset switch-on difference,
the solar pump runs for an appropriate length of time to
heat up the cylinder (differential control).
If two solar circuits are connected, the solar pump kick
function is activated for both solar circuits. The function
is performed separately for each collector array.
Special operating modes:
If the Auto mode has been selected for the cylinder cir-
cuit, the following special operating modes will influence
the reheating:
Override: Cylinder charging until the falling edge of the
next time window
Holiday: Cylinder charging deactivated
One-time charging: The cylinder is charged once to the
preset target temperature
Special output
This is a 230 V switching contact which can be confi-
gured either for reheating by means of an electric hea-
ter cartridge or for electric heating of the cylinder, or
else as a switching contact for anti-legionnaire’s disease
protection.
Starting output cylinder
The aim of this function is a quick preparing of the sto-
rage tank heating function. You can define the number
of boiler stages or heating appliances with which
recharging is started for this purpose. Drops in perfor-
mance of the cylinder should be observed to avoid
unnecessary cycles of the heating appliance during the
hot water supply.
Basic setting: 1 (heating appliance or first stage)
Switching hysteresis
A boiler switching hysteresis is required to switch the
heating appliances or stages of the boiler on or off if
heating appliances are cascaded or two-stage boilers
are used. The controller enables an individual setting of
the required switching hysteresis. The following defini-
tions have been made for their activation and deactiva-
tion:
- Activation temperature 1/3 of hysteresis below set
appliance value;
Shutdown temperature 2/3 of hysteresis above target
system value.
The
switching hysteresis is asymmetrical, so that the heater
can also switch on (especially with flat heating curves)
at higher outside temperatures (= lower target FT).
Switching hysteresis parameter: 1 - 20 K; basic value 8 K
Switch-on delay (only for cascades)
This is the time interval which should be waited out
between the activation of the previous cascade/boiler
stage and the activation of the next stage. It is used to
avoid unnecessarily switching stages on and off when
the system is close to the desired target level. The next
stage is only switched on if the current target system
value has not yet been attained or exceeded at the end
of this time.
Switch-on difference
If the difference between the collector temperature and
the lower cylinder temperature falls below the switch-on
difference, then the solar pump switches off.
Caution: The switch-on difference must be at least 1 K
smaller than the set activation difference! Therefore the
value for the setting difference is automatically adjus-
ted when 1 K is exceeded.
Note: Does not apply in combination with a VPM S or
VMS solar pump unit.
