53Operating manual for the auroMATIC 620 0020094404_00 Controller
Operating mode
Using the operating modes you determine how your
room heating or hot water generation is controlled.
Operator level
The Operator level displays the basic parameters which
you can set/change without any special prior knowledge
during normal operation. You can adapt your heating
installation to your needs by setting the parameters
accordingly.
Parameters
Parameters are the operating values of your heating
system.
You can set these operating values by, for example,
changing the Night set back temperature parameter
from 15 °C to 12 °C.
ProE system
The Vaillant ProE-System enables quick, problem-free
and irreversible connection of accessories and external
system components to the appliance's electronics.
Protection class
Protection class denotes the classification and identifi-
cation of electrical equipment with reference to the
existing safety measures to prevent electric shocks.
Room temperature
The room temperature is the temperature actually
measured in your apartment.
Secondary return
If there is a large distance between the hot water
source and the draw-off point (e.g. sink, shower or kit-
chen sink) cooled-down hot water will first run from the
long pipe until hot water is present again. For that rea-
son a secondary return is laid parallel to the hot water
pipe in installations with long pipe runs. A pump keeps
the hot water circulating constantly. Thus hot water is
immediately available, even at remote draw-off points.
Time controllers are used to conserve energy.
Set-back mode
In set-back mode, a system is operated at a somewhat
lower temperature, speed, etc., than usual, e.g. set-back
mode of the heating installation. A suitable controller
can be used here to lower the room temperature, e.g.
during absence or overnight.
Set values
Target values are desired values that you specify in the
controller, e.g. the room target temperature or target
temperature for water heating.
Solar-assisted heating:
Apart from heating drinking water, solar heating
systems can also be used to assist heating. To this end,
the solar system is made with a combi or buffer cylinder
and correspondingly larger collector surface. Free solar
energy can thus supply the necessary heating heat
during the transitional periods (spring and autumn). On
sunny winter days the solar system supports the heater
and thus helps to conserve fuel.
Heating systems with low operating temperatures such
as, e.g. underfloor heating, are particularly suited to
solar assistance.
Solar collector
Solar collectors convert solar radiation into useful ther-
mal energy for hot water supply and heating assistance.
The solar energy is taken up by the absorber in the coll-
ector, which transfers the radiant heat to the solar cir-
culation. The solar circulation, which carries solar fluid
(heat transfer fluid consisting of a water–glycol mix-
ture), transports the heat from the collector to the solar
cylinder.
Solar collectors can be constructed as flat or vacuum
tube collectors. Vaillant auroTHERM classic flat collec-
tors consist of a flat absorber with a cover of patented
anti-reflection glass. The 'Blue Shine' effect gives the
flat collector a distinctive visual appearance.
Solar cylinder
Regardless of whether the solar heat is used for hot
water generation or for solar-assisted heating:
In both cases it is stored temporarily in a solar cylinder
or a buffer cylinder so that the heat is also then availa-
ble when the sun is not shining directly. Different confi-
gurations are used depending on the version of the
solar thermal energy system. Bivalent DHW cylinders, to
which an additional second heater can be connected,
are used predominantly for solar heating of drinking
water. For solar-assisted heating, the heat is stored in a
buffer cylinder, e.g. an MSS cylinder. Combi storage
tanks are suitable for the combination of drinking water
heating and heating assistance.
Solar gain
The energy obtained by a solar system in a defined
period (usually one year). For solar thermal installa-
tions, the term means the useful solar heat that can be
extracted as heat from the solar cylinder and for photo-
voltaic installations, the useful electrical energy.
