8. Using The Microscope
8.1. Adjusting The Lighting
Connect the USB microscope to the switched-on PC and switch on the object lighting by
pushingtheLightingbutton:
Press1x: theobjectisilluminatedfromabove(uplightingprinciple).This
settingshouldbeusedforexaminingnon-transparentobjects.
Press2x: theobjectisilluminatedfrombelow(backlightingprinciple).This
settingshouldbeusedforexaminingtransparentobjects.
Press3x: theobjectisilluminatedfrombelowandabove.Usethissettingto
show internal and surface structures of semi-transparent objects.
Press4x: Illuminationisswitchedoffcompletely.
8.2. Setting The Factor Of Magnification
Theinsideofthemicroscopeunitcontains3opticalsystemswithdifferentmagnication
factors(10x,60x,200x)movedbytheMagnicationdialinfrontoftheimageconverter
(lens changer).
The dial can be turned in any direction until it engages.
Theselectedmagnicationisshownonthedial.
8.3. First Observation
1. Switch on the object lighting as described above.
2. Selectthelowestmagnication(10x)byturningtheMagnicationdial.
3. Place a slide containing the preparation under the retaining clamps on the
microscope stage.
4. Start the software Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD.
5. Clickonthersttab“Record“.Oncethemicroscopeisready,the
Ready light lights up. The preparation now appears in the preview area of the
program window.
6. Adjust the picture focus by turning the Focus dial.
7. Where necessary, move slide until the preparation is fully lit and at the centre of
the image
8. Youcannowselectahighermagnication,Thefocuswillthenhavetobereadjusted.
