Thank you for purchasing this USB microscope.
You have acquired a modern optoelectronic product allowing microscopic observation
via a PC screen.
Prior to using the device please study these Operating Instructions in their entirety and
observe the notes. This will ensure a long service life of the product. If you should pass
on the microscope to another user, please also include these Operating Instructions.
This microscope is designed for observing preparations on slides at magnication levels
of between 10x to 200x. The enclosed software Ulead Video Studio 7 SE VCD allows digi-
tal recording of the preparations in photo and video format.
Use the USB microscope only for the purpose described above.
In case of a different use resulting in damage, the warranty will be voided.
Injury to persons and damage to the environment can only be prevented
if the device is used correctly.

6. Preparation For Use
Remove microscope from packaging and place on a straight, stable and clean surface.
Slide microscope unit from the top into the stand holder.
Before you can use the USB microscope, the software supplied on the program CD must
be installed on your PC.
6.1. Installation Of Software Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD
• PlacethesuppliedprogramCDcontainingUleadVideoStudio7SE
VCD into the CD or DVD drive. The CD normally starts up automatically
• Clickonmenupoint“InstallUleadVideoStudio7“intheselectionmenu.
Note:
First install the Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD software and the device driver.
Only then complete the USB connection between the microscope and the PC.
Note:
IftheCDdoesnotstartupautomatically,openWindowsExplorerandselectthe
drive into which the CD has been inserted. To start the selection menu double click
on“AutoRun.exe“.

• Followtheinstructionsoftheinstallationassistant.Aftercompletingastepalways
clickon“Continue“tostartthenextstep.
-Selectalanguage.Thedefaultlanguageis“German“.
- The menu window of the InstallShield Wizard appears on screen.
-Readthelicenseagreementandconrmbyclickingon“Yes“.
- Enter the user name, the company name, where applicable, and the serial
number.
The serial number of the software can be found on the cover of the program CD.
Store the cover in a safe place.
• The“Selecttargetdirectory“showsthedefaulttargetdirectory.Conrmthe
suggestedtargetdirectoryforUleadVideoStudio7SEVCDbyclickingon“Contnue”.
Orclickonthe“Search“buttonandchoseanothertargetdirectory
• FortuningtheunittoyourTVsystem,pleaseselectyourcountryandusedTVsystem
inthenextstep.
• Nextselectwhetheryouwishtoreadthe“ReadMele“uponcompletionofthe
installation and whether you wish the registration window to open.
• Thenextwindowprovidesanoverviewoftheselectedsettings.Checkthelistand
starttheinstallationprocessbyclickingon“Continue”.Clickon“Back”tochange
already selected settings.
Note:
If the serial number has been entered incorrectly, a warning message will appear.
Conrmbyclickingon“OK”andenterserialnumber.
Note:
Theselectionofanotherprogramfoldermaybesignicantinnetworkswherethe
harddisconwhichtheprogramistobeinstalledisnotthe“C“drive.Onstand
alone PCs we recommend installing the program in the suggested folder.

top,theReadMeleand/orregistrationwindowisopened.TheReadMelecontains
further information about the installation of the program and about remedying pro-
blems.
• Clickon“No,computerwillberestartedlater“ifaskedinthesubsequentInstall
ShieldWizardmenuandclickon”Finish“toclosethemenuscreen.
6.2. Installation Of Device Drivers
NowconnecttheUSBmicroscopetoyourPCbyconnectingthesuppliedcablersttothe
microscope and then to the USB port of your PC.
• Nextstart“InstallPCCam“fromtheselectionmenuoftheprogramCD.
Caution !
The microscope may only be connected to USB ports version 1.1 or later in
order to prevent any hazards

• ThemenuwindowoftheInstallShieldWizardappearsonscreen.
Tostartthetransferofthedriverlesclickon“Continue“.Pleaserestartyour
computer once the driver installation has been completed.
• Afterhavingrestartedthesystem,connecttheUSBmicroscopetoyourcomputer,
using the USB cable provided. Please connect the microscope directly to the rear
USB port of your computer.
• Theinstallationprogramwillthensearchfortheconnecteddeviceandsetitupfor
the application.
• ThenextInstallShieldWizardmenuwillaskyoutorestartthecomputer.Removethe
programCDfromthedriveandclickon“Finish”torestartthecomputer.
• AfterthePChasbeenrestartedandtheUleadVideoStudio7SEVCDprogramhas
been started, the USB microscope is ready for use.
7. Using The Accessories
The USB microscope is a versatile device. To start off hobby enthusiasts, the set contains
alsosomeaccessorymaterialsallowingspecicexperimentingwithouttheneedforan
equipped hobby laboratory.
7.1. Ready-Made Preparations
Thefollowingready-madepreparationsarepartofthecontentsoftheboxandcanbe
analysedunderthemicroscopewithoutfurtherpreparation:
- Apple
- Plant pollen
- Leaf of water thyme (Hydrilla verticillata)
- Leaf of broad bean (Vicia faba)
- Onion skin (Allium cepa)
7.2. Making Your Own Preparations
Thefollowingaccessorieshavebeenprovidedformakingyourownpreparations:
• Slide: Usingasharpbladecutverynesamplesfromthematerialtobeexamined
and place on the clear slide.
• Adhesive (Rubber Arabicum): This substance is water-soluble and is used to attach
preparations to the slide.
• Eosin coloring: Eosin is a strong dye for coloring preparations, making it easier to see
details (such as cell walls or cell nuclei). The use of minute amounts together with a
dropofwatersufces.
Notes:
Thersttimetheprogramisstartedtheprocesswilltakealittlelongerasthe
software still carries out some program setups automatically.
If possible, always connect the USB microscope to the same USB port of your PC to
avoid additional installation steps and multiple installations of drivers.

7.3. Breeding Brine Shrimps
Aninterestingexperimentisbreedingandobservingthedevelopmentofbrineshrimp,
also called Sea Monkeys (Artemia Salina) under the microscope. These animals are Fairy
shrimps naturally occurring in salt-water lakes.
• Theshrimpscanbebredintheenclosedbreedingtank,ajamjarorasmall
aquarium.
Itisveryimportantthattheusedaquarium/usedtankiscleanandfreefrom
contaminants, such as residue of cleaning agents or similar.
Prior to use thus clean the tank thoroughly with plenty of tap water without cleaning
agent and, where necessary (e.g. when using old aquariums still soiled), a cleaning
sponge.Important:neverusecleaningagents!
• Afterthoroughcleaningofthetank,rinseitthoroughlywithwater.Newtanks
only have to be rinsed thoroughly with water.
• Onlyplacetankindesignatedarea.Fillwithdistilledorboiledwater.Addapprox.
15-20 g of sea salt or iodine-free table salt. Do not use iodinated table salt, or
similar.Ensurethatthewatertemperaturehasreachedapprox.22°to26°Cbefore
releasing the eggs.
• Duringtherstdaysitisimportantthatthetankismovedaslittleaspossibleto
ensure that none of the eggs stick to the walls of the basin above the water line and
thus do not hatch.
• Coverthetank(butensureadequateventilation!)andensurethatthetankisex
posedtoalotoflightoverthenextdays.Thewatertemperatureshouldbeaprox.
22°to26°C.
• Donotoverheatthetankasthiscouldleadtorapidbacteriaformationwhichcould
kill the animals.
Caution !
The supplied Eosin dye can cause irritation when coming into contact with the
eyes (R36). Do not inhale the dust! If agent comes into contact with the eyes, rinse

• Nowalittlepatienceisrequired.Itcantakeoveraweekbeforetherst
Nauplii(larvae)canberecognized.
• Important:Donotfeedintherstweek!Carefulfeedingshouldonlycommence
afterasizeofapprox.0.3cmhasbeenreached.
• TheNaupliineedatleast12hoursoflighteachdaytopromoteidealgrowth.
• UseonlyspecialfeedforyoungNaupliiuntiltheyhavereachedasizeofapprox.
1.5 cm. But always take care to use small dosages and only provide as much feed
as the animals can actually eat each day. In this way no feed residue settles in
the tank clouding the water and causing the nauplii to die off. Algae and dried
yeast which can be purchased in pet shops should be used as feed.
• Next(fromasizeofapprox.1.5cm)itistimetoaddsomewatertothetank,
where necessary. It must be observed that the water has the same temperature
as the water in the tank.
• Aslightdiscolorationofthewaterisnormal.Ifthewaterstarts,however,to
emit a stronger odor, some of the water should be replaced.
When carefully replenishing the water it should be observed that the water (not
tap water) has the same temperature.
To observe the animals always place them in a salt-water droplet on the slide or place
themunderthemicroscopeinaPetridishlledwithsaltwater.
Caution !
Wash your hands after coming in contact with the aquarium water or feed.
The brine shrimp are not suitable for eating!

8. Using The Microscope
8.1. Adjusting The Lighting
Connect the USB microscope to the switched-on PC and switch on the object lighting by
pushingtheLightingbutton:
Press1x: theobjectisilluminatedfromabove(uplightingprinciple).This
settingshouldbeusedforexaminingnon-transparentobjects.
Press2x: theobjectisilluminatedfrombelow(backlightingprinciple).This
settingshouldbeusedforexaminingtransparentobjects.
Press3x: theobjectisilluminatedfrombelowandabove.Usethissettingto
show internal and surface structures of semi-transparent objects.
Press4x: Illuminationisswitchedoffcompletely.
8.2. Setting The Factor Of Magnification
Theinsideofthemicroscopeunitcontains3opticalsystemswithdifferentmagnication
factors(10x,60x,200x)movedbytheMagnicationdialinfrontoftheimageconverter
(lens changer).
The dial can be turned in any direction until it engages.
Theselectedmagnicationisshownonthedial.
8.3. First Observation
1. Switch on the object lighting as described above.
2. Selectthelowestmagnication(10x)byturningtheMagnicationdial.
3. Place a slide containing the preparation under the retaining clamps on the
microscope stage.
4. Start the software Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE VCD.
5. Clickonthersttab“Record“.Oncethemicroscopeisready,the
Ready light lights up. The preparation now appears in the preview area of the
program window.
6. Adjust the picture focus by turning the Focus dial.
7. Where necessary, move slide until the preparation is fully lit and at the centre of
the image
8. Youcannowselectahighermagnication,Thefocuswillthenhavetobereadjusted.

9. Recording And Storing Images And Videos
9.1. Snapshot Function
• Carryoutsteps1to8asdirectedinsection8.3.
• PushtheSnapshotbuttontocapturetheimagecurrentlydisplayed.
• The“SnapShow“windowandtheimageisshownonscreen.Bypushingthe
button again, the last image is always displayed on screen.
• Byclickingon“File“and“Save“theimagecanbesavedontheharddiscin
PNG,JPEGorBitmapformat.Theselectionoptionsappearinthenextwindow
(as shown).
Note:
Alwaysstartyourobservationsonthelowestmagnication.Thismakesiteasierto
center and focus the object.

Change the selection where required.
• Specifythefolderinwhichtheimagesaretobestored.
Clickonthefoldersymbol“Recordingfolder“andselect
the desired folder.
• IntheUleadprogramwindowclickon“recordimage“.
The image is recorded. Preview windows appear in the
right and bottom area of the program window.
The image is stored in the Bitmap format .bmp.
• Inordertoviewanimageinthepre-
view window, click on the small preview
image in the right area of the program
window. The view below the heading,
“VideoStudio7“mayhavetobe
changedto“Image“.

Click on the small preview image of the video in the right program area. Change the
displaysettingbelowtheheading“VideoStudio7“to“Video“whererequired(seeadja-
cent image).

10. Storage and Care
10.1. Storage
When not used store your USB microscope in a dry location free from dust. If the device
is not used for some time it is best returned to it´s original packaging for secure storage
and also transportation.
10.2. Cleaning
Your USB microscope is a high-quality optical device. Avoid contact with dust and humi-
dity.Avoidngerprintsonallopticalsurfaces.
Firstremovedirtordustusingasoftbrush.Next,cleanthesoiledareawithasoft,lint-
free cloth (e.g. linen) and some alcohol.
Do not use any other solvents or aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents as these could
damage the surface.
Note:
TheprogramUleadVideoStudio7SEVCDprovidesextensivefunctionsforproces-
sing your images and videos. Program features can be found in the User Manual
provided on the program CD. Your language version can be found in folder Docu-
ment/Manual”Yourlanguage”.

Note:
Neverplaceorrestthemicroscopeonadustysurface.Remember:Awellmaintained
microscope will keep its optical quality and thus its practical value for many years.
11. Disposal
11.1. Packaging
In order to prevent any damage, the device is supplied in transportation
packaging. This packaging consists of recyclable material and can be returned
to the recycling cycle. Dispose of packaging correctly.
11.2. Device
InaccordancewithECDirective2002/96/EGthedevicemustbecorrectlydis-
posed off at the end of its life and may not be disposed off in domestic waste.
Reusable material contained in the devise will be recycled, preventing
environmental pollution. For further information contact your Municipality or
your local disposal company.
12. Service And Warranty

include the guarantee-card in your parcel). We will then replace or repair your
microscope free of charge. Your statuory rights are not affected.

repair. Repairs performed outside the warranty period must be paid in full by the
