Game overview
Springtime has come. The animals are leaving their dens in
search of food. The boars and deer go through the forests
and the fl ower fi elds. The duck go to the water. But some
poachers are determined to catch the animals!
We, the forest keepers, want to protect the animals. So, we
also hike into the country to stop the poachers. The poachers
have secret hiding-places, on strategic spots, where we can’t
nd them. But to catch the animals, they have to come out of
their hiding-places.
By joining forces, we can surround the poachers and catch
them while they are sneaking through a forest or fi eld. But
sometimes the poachers escape using the boats they have
hidden near their hiding-places!
Game course
At the beginning of your turn, all poachers will go from one
hiding-place to another at the same time. This is caused by
rolling the die. After that, you move your forest keeper to
a place where you can protect animals and maybe later on
catch a poacher. Then two animals will come out of their
dens; you get to choose where. Finally, you may move two
animals, taking care that they are at a safe distance from the
poachers.
Contents
Game board, game rules, 5 forest keeper pawns (coloured),
6 poacher pawns (black), 27 animals (9 ducks, 9 boars and
9 deer), 3 spare cards (1 duck, 1 boar, 1 deer), 1 special die.
Preparation
Put the game board in the middle of the playing area. You
can see fi elds with red fl owers, forest areas and water. The
three white circles are the dens of the animals. The black
dots are the poachers’ hiding-places. Notice that each area
has two hiding-places on diff erent sides.
Each player chooses a forest keeper pawn and puts it on
the forest house in the centre of the board.
Take as many poacher pawns as the number of players,
the rest stay in the game box. Put them on the numbered
hiding-places. First number 1, then number 2, and so on.
Put the 27 animals (9 ducks, 9 boars and 9 deer) next to the
board. The 3 spare cards are not used.
Turn all animals upside down and shuffl e them well.
Flip over one animal and put it on one of the three dens.
Then move the animal to its area next to the den. Ducks
go to the water, boars to the forest and deers to the fl ower
eld.
Do the same for the other two dens. At the start of the
game there will be three animals in play.
Together, choose a starting player, for example the one
who has visited a forest lately.
Playing
Every game turn has 4 parts that are carried out in a fi xed
order. When you are done, the turn goes to the left (the
game proceeds ‘sunwise’).
1 Moving the poachers
The poachers sneak from one hiding-place to an other, in
search for animals. This is our chance to catch them!
Throw the die. When you throw
green, all poachers enter
the forest next to their hiding place. They search the forest
and then go to the hiding place on the other side of this
forest.
Red will make them cross the fl ower fi elds.
Blue means they take a boat and cross the water.
Some hiding places are between two diff erent areas
instead of three. When the third colour comes up, this
poacher will remain at its place.
All poachers should be regarded. Help each other to keep
up which ones have moved.
If a poacher crosses a forest or a fi eld with a forest keeper,
this poacher is arrested. Cheers, one less poacher! Put the
black pawn in the box.
Sometimes two poachers enter the same area, switching
places. If there is a forest keeper on the area, both
poachers will be caught.
Should a poacher enter an area with an animal,
unprotected by a forest keeper, this animal is caught. Oh
no, the poacher was too fast... You have lost!
2 Moving your forest keeper
The forest keepers move only through forest and fi eld.
You move your own pawn from a forest area to a fl ower
eld, or from a fl ower fi eld to a forest. You may also stay
in the same place.
If the area you move to is already guarded by another
forest keeper, then you can make an extra step. With
good co-operation, you can sometimes move a good
distance in one turn!
Forest keepers can stand on the same area together.
You can’t catch a poacher at this part of your turn, since
they are in their hiding-places!
3 Waking up animals
Two animals will come out of their dens.
Flip over one animal. Choose one of the three dens and put
the animal on top of it. Then move the animal to its area
next to the den. Ducks go to the water, boars to the forest
and deers to the fl ower fi eld.
Each area can only hold one animal. Should all three
starting places be occupied, then you can choose an area
anywhere on the board.
Flip over a second animal and place it in the same way.
4 Moving animals
You may move two diff erent animals. One duck and one
deer, one deer and one boar, or one boar and one duck.
Ducks fl y over one fl ower fi eld to another water area.
Boars go from their current forest to another forest,
crossing one fl ower fi eld.
Deer move from their fl ower fi eld to another fl ower fi eld,
crossing one forest.
Each area can only hold
one
animal.
Animals and forest keepers can be on the same area. The
forest keepers protect the animals.
