Tyres
Tyres play an important role in ensuring ride comfort and grip on roads and tracks.
Off-road grip is provided by the tyre tread. Please follow these basic rules:
Rule 1:
High tyre pressures are not suitable for off-road use. The maximum
and minimum pressure permitted for your tyres is indicated on the
tyre walls. Avoid leaving your MTB/Racing bike in direct sunshine,
the tyres may suffer and the pressure will increase. With time, tyres
always lose some air; this is particularly the case if you use latex
inner tubes. Check your tyre pressure regularly, and pump up your
tyres to the required pressure if necessary. A conversion table for
the two standard units of pressure may be found in the care and
maintenance section of this manual. Pressure loss is greater the
higher your tyre pressure is.
Rule 2:
Wide tyres provide better grip and rolling than narrow ones. Wide
tyres are particularly recommended for riding in autumn and winter.
Further, wide tyres roll better assuming the same pressure than
narrow tyres. The wind resistance of wide cross-section tyres only
plays a minor role at extremely high speeds. Treadless tyres are the
best solution on metalled surfaces (streets, surfaced tracks).
Used tyres dont belong in the dustbin. They can be completely
recycled, please ask your dealer!
There are matching tubes for all sizes of tyre; butyl tubes stay in-
flated better than latex tubes.
The dimensions of shells and tubulars must match!
Inner tubes
Inner tubes have a virtually unlimited lifespan. In the case of a puncture a tube can
be repaired with a conventional puncture repair kit they will then function just as
well as before. Please remember the following whenever you install a new tube:
· The tube should not be pinched between the rim and the tyre bead.
· The tyres should not be unbalanced after installation, e.g. when one part of the
tyre is higher.
· The valve must be perpendicular to the rim.
· The rim tape must be suitable for high pressures, have the correct width, and
be undamaged and correctly installed.
Ignoring any of the notes above may lead to sudden tyre pressure loss with a high
accident risk. When in doubt, ask your dealer.
