6 _ Care and maintenance
The more often and more intensively you use your ROTWILD MTB/Racing bike, the
more care and attention it requires. Regular maintenance increases the lifespan of
your MTB/Racing bike, maintains its functions and prevents more extensive repairs.
We recommend that you should take your bike to your dealer for a thorough inspec-
tion at least once a year. If you experience any unexplainable problems with your
MTB/Racing bike (e.g. when riding, steering or braking), consult your dealer in the
interest of safety. We strongly recommend you to read the notes in the section
Inspection Checklist. In the following section, we would like to provide you with a
few maintenance tips.
The best solution for dirt on your bike is a cleaning cloth. Caked dirt and dust is
easily removed with the help of a cloth dipped in a bucket of warm water with a few
drops of washing-up liquid (biodegradable). All parts of your bike, except the chain,
saddle, tyres and plastic components, can be cleaned in this way
The care of your MTB/Racing bike in this way has the clear advantage that you will
notice any damage at an early stage. Take this opportunity to examine your frame,
forks and components for any damage. After cleaning and drying, you can protect
and conserve your bike: The best protection is spray-wax. Remember a little
applied more often is better than too much all at once.
Important: Take care that brake discs, rims, and brake pads (in
the case of rim brakes) do not come into contact with wax or
lubricants (oil or grease). This could result in a total loss of
braking power.
MTB Full Suspension Frames
The maintenance of the rear construction elements of Full Suspension MTBs should
be limited to careful cleaning of bearing surroundings and the shock absorbers. Do
not use high-pressure steam or water jet cleaners, or aggressive chemical cleaning
fluids! Check your bearings and real wheel suspension units regularly for lateral
play, and your shock absorbers for vertical play!
· Lift your bike by the saddle and check lateral rear wheel play by trying to move
the rear wheel from side to side. This may be easier if someone helps you by
holding the front end of the frame.
· To check for vertical shock absorber play, lightly set the rear wheel on the
ground and lift the bike a little, listen for a rattling noise indicating play.
· If you determine any play in these components, please contact your dealer.
