16.6 FREQUENCY
SELECTING THE FREQUENCY CHANNEL AND
MODULATION
This menu has already been described in detail on page 20 in
the Section entitled ‘Using the transmitter for the first time’, so
it will only be r
epeated her
e briefly in order to maintain the cor-
rect sequence.

The receiver number (printed on the back panel of the recei-
ver) has been entered; a frequency channel can only be trans-
mitted to the receiver if the correct receiver number is trans-
mitted at the same time.
Input field for second receiver number (for large-scale model
aircraft).
Press the Frequency channel button, and a three-page selec-
tion of spot frequencies appears, showing all those which are
approved for use in Europe. Select a channel which is appro-
ved in the country where you wish to operate the model.
Press the ‘Enter’ button to confirm the new spot frequency
you have selected (or press the ‘Back’ button to interrupt
the function without changing frequencies).
Once you have selected a spot frequency, a confirmation dis-
play appears so that you can check the new channel. The
screen also asks whether you now wish this information to be
transmitted to the receiver.
Confirm this by pressing the “Yes” button.
The screen switches to the transmission display where the
transmission is displayed in graphic form; an audible signal
sounds, and the monitor LED flashes blue.
While this is happening (within two or three seconds) you
must switch the receiver on (or off, then on again). If this
does not work, switch the receiver off and on again.
When the receiver has picked up the signal and changed
frequencies, the monitor LED on the receiver flashes once,
and a servo connected to channel 1 moves three times
briefly around its centre position.
NOTE!
The frequency information is transmitted at very low power,
with an effective range of ar
ound two or three metres. For the
system to work correctly it is absolutely essential to unwind
the receiver aerial and screw the transmitter aerial into its
socket (if not already in place).
In the immediate vicinity of PCs, transformers, fluorescent
lights, Bluetooth equipment, mobile telephones etc., the trans-
mission may be affected by interference since these devices
are much more powerful. If this should occur, seek out a loca-
tion where the level of ‘electro-smog’ is much lower.
If the monitor LED on the receiver starts flashing after you have
initiated the frequency channel transmission process, or if the
receiver fails to confirm reception using the indicators mentio-
ned earlier, then the frequency switch has not taken place.
Position the receiver closer to the transmitter, then repeat the
procedure by pressing the “Repeat” button.
The frequency information is transmitted on channel 80 of the
35 MHz band, and if this channel is already in use by another
transmitter, the power of the FX-40 transmitter may not be suf-
ficient for changing the spot frequency. In this case place both
aerials very close together, or carry out the channel switch
using the DSC lead.
