16.5 SOUND (MUSIC / SOUND FILES)
In this menu point you can assign sound files to the various
switched functions. Each switch position can be allotted its
own sound, regar
dless of whether it is a physical switched
function or the position of a transmitter control switch. A total
of twenty-two separate switch positions are available for
sound links, together with the actions of switching On and Off.
The sound files to be used must be in the .wav format. These
can be generated by various methods: directly using the FX 40
transmitter’s integral microphone, or with the help of a PC. Vir-
tually all PCs running the Windows operating system feature a
Sound Recorder, which can be found in the Start /Programs
/Accessories menu. PC sound files can then be created using
a microphone connected to the PC. Various free sound crea-
tion programs are available on the Internet; a good example is
“cool edit 96”, which also provides post-editing facilities (cut-
ting, amplifying etc.).
The procedure for recording sound files using the transmitter’s
Recorder is described below.
IMPORTANT:
Sounds must be stored in the W
AV folder on the D/P card. The
transmitter only searches for sounds in that location, and if
they are stored anywhere else, they will not appear in the pre-
view.
The D/P card must always be initialised in the transmitter
before you write data from a PC to the card. This is the proce-
dure:
Insert the card in the transmitter and switch it on.
The initialisation process takes place automatically,
and four folders are created on the Data Pack:
BMP for images
WAV for sound files
WMA for music files
MODEL for model memory files
Experienced computer users can also set up the folders them-
selves; if you wish to do this please note that capital letters
must be used for the folder names. For memory capacity rea-
sons the picture and sound files are ALWAYS stored on the
D/P card. This means that you must copy the associated
sounds at the same time as the model memory, if you need to
copy the memory contents to another D/P card for use in a
second transmitter
If this link is not present, the linked sound track will be dis-
played, but no sound will be played.

Creating sound files using the internal recorder
Pressing the record button (microphone symbol) opens the
Sound Recorder. Operate the r
ecord button and speak the
required message into the microphone. The maximum length
of the recorded sound is three seconds, although sounds
recorded on the PC may be up to ten seconds in length. The
transmitter assigns a sequential number to the series of
sounds. Assign a suitable name to the file (see right).
Automatic Continue
It is possible to assign single switching mode (arrow
symbol) or sequential switching mode (multi-arrow
symbol) to each operation of a particular switch. The
latter is used for calling a series of flight manoeuvres.
Linking sound files
Pressing the appropriate file button opens a list of the availa-
ble sound files. At this point you can assign the sounds to the
corresponding switch functions. It is also possible to erase the
link, and erase the files. Y
ou can also rename the sound files
using the “Name” button.
