e) Do not use a wood carving chain disc
or a saw disc with teeth. These discs
frequently cause kick back and loss of
control.
5.3 Additional safety instruction
for grinding and cutting work
Safety warnings speci c to grinding
and cutting work
a) Use only the discs recommended by
the manufacturer and speci c pro-
tective covers designed for the given
disc. Discs for which the electromechani-
cal tool was not designed cannot be cov-
ered appropriately and are dangerous.
b) The protective cover must be safely
attached to the electromechanical
tool and located in the correct posi-
tion for maximum safety so that the
smallest possible part of the disc is
exposed in the direction of the user.
The protective cover helps to protect the
user against disc fragments and acciden-
tal contact with the disc.
c) The discs may only be used for rec-
ommended applications. For exam-
ple: Do not grind using the side of
the cutting disc. Abrasive cutting discs
are designed for circumferential cutting,
side forces acting on these discs could
cause them to break apart.
d) Always use undamaged disc ang-
es, which are of the correct size and
shape for the given disc. Correct disc
anges support the disc and thereby
reduce the chance of the disc cracking.
Cutting anges may differ from anges
for grinding.
e) Do not use used discs that originally
had larger dimensions for larger elec-
tromechanical tools. Discs designed
for larger electromechanical tools are not
appropriate for the larger revolutions of
smaller tools and may crack.
5.4 Additional safety instruc-
tions for cutting
Additional safety warnings speci c to
abrasive cutting work activity
a) Do not push on the cutting disc and
do not exert excessive pressure. Do
not attempt to achieve excessive
cutting depth. Overloading the disc in-
creases the load and likeliness of defor-
mation or jamming of the disc in the cut
and danger of kick back or cracking of
the disc.
b) Keep your body away from directly
behind a rotating disc. When the disc
in the work point is moving away from
your body, kick back may ing the rotat-
ing disc and the electromechanical tool
directly at you.
c) If the disc becomes jammed or cut-
ting is interrupted for whatever rea-
son, turn off the electromechanical
tool and hold it still until the disc
comes to a stop. Never attempt to
remove the cutting disc from the cut
if the disc is in motion, otherwise
there is a risk of kick back. Check the
situation and make necessary changes
to exclude the jamming of the disc.
d) Do not continue cutting an object. Al-
low the disc to reach full revolutions
and carefully start to cut again. If you
turn on the tool again with the disc in the
cut, it may jam, push up or kick back.
e) Provide support for panels and other
large objects, to reduce the danger
of the disc jamming or kicking back.
Large objects have a tendency to move
with their own weight. Supports must be
placed under the object being cut near
the line of the cut and near the edges of
the object on both sides of the disc.
f) Pay extra attention when carrying
out cavity cuts into existing walls
or other “blind” areas. The penetrat-
ing disc may cut through a gas or water
line, electrical wires or objects that could
cause kick back.
5.5 Additional safety instruc-
tions to surface grinding
Safety warning speci c to surface
grinding
a) For the grinding disc do not use sand
paper that is too large. When select-
ing a sand paper follow the manu-
facturer’s instructions. A large sand
paper extending beyond the grinding
plate presents a risk of ripping and may
cause jamming, ripping of the disc and
kick back.
