8. Put band saw blade on the rubber
tyres.
9. Tighten setting knob (64) until blade
does no longer slip off the band saw
wheels.
10. Tension band saw blade (see “Care
and Maintenance”).
11. Close lower blade guard (62)
12. Close housing door.
13. Then:
align band saw blade (see “Care
and maintenance”);
align blade guides (see “Care
and maintenance”);
let saw test run for at least one
minute;
stop saw, unplug and recheck
settings.
14. Close locking bar (60) and tighten
screws (59).
9.3 Band saw blade tension-
ing
A
Danger!
Too much tension can cause
the band saw blade to break. Too little
tension can cause the driven band
saw wheel to slip and the band saw
blade to stop.
1. Raise upper blade guide fully (see
“Operation”).
2. Check tension by pushing with a fin-
ger, halfway between table and
upper blade guide, against the side
of the blade. The blade should flex
not more than 3-5 mm.
The correct adjustment can also be
checked at the blade tension indica-
tor. The scale shows the correct
adjustment in dependence on the
saw blade width.
3. Correct tension if necessary:
Turning setting knob (65) in direc-
tion indicated by arrow increases
the blade tension.
Turning setting knob (65) in the
opposite direction reduces the blade
tension.
9.4 Band saw blade align-
ment
If the band saw blade does not run flush
with the front edge of the rubber tyres,
the tracking needs to be corrected by
adjusting the tilt of the upper band saw
wheel:
1. Loosen locking nut (66).
2. Setting knob (67):
Turn setting knob (67) clockwise
if the band saw blade runs
towards the front of the saw.
Turn setting knob (67) counter-
clockwise if the band saw blade
runs towards the rear of the saw.
3. Tighten locking nut (66).
9.5 Aligning the upper blade
guide
The upper blade guide consists of:
a thrust bearing (supports the band
saw blade from the rear),
two guide bearings (providing lateral
support).
All bearings need to be readjusted after
every band saw blade change or track-
ing.
3
Note:
Periodically check all bearings for
wear, if necessary replace both guide
bearings at the same time.
Adjusting the thrust bearing
1. If necessary, align and tighten the
band saw blade.
2. Loosen the thrust bearing's (68)
locking screw (69).
3. Adjust thrust bearing position (dis-
tance thrust bearing - band saw
blade = 0.5 mm – if the band saw
blade is turned by hand, it shall not
touch the thrust bearing).
4. Tighten the thrust bearing locking
screw.
Adjusting the guide bearings
1. Loosen knurled nut (71).
2. Set guide bearings (72) with the
knurled thumb screws (70) against
the band saw blade.
3. Turn band saw wheel by hand in a
clockwise direction several times to
bring the guide bearings in correct
position – both guide bearings
should just touch the band saw
blade.
4. Retigthen knurled nut (71) to lock
the knurled thumb screw (70).
9.6 Aligning the lower blade
guide
The lower blade guide consists of:
a thrust bearing (supports the band
saw blade from the rear),
two guide bearings (providing lateral
support).
These parts need to be readjusted after
every band saw blade change or track-
ing:
3
Note:
Periodically check thrust bearings
and guide bearings for wear, if neces-
sary replace both guide bearings at the
same time.
Basic alignment
1. Open lower blade guard (73)
2. Loosen the thrust bearing's locking
screw (75) with an Allen key.
