8. Initial operation
e) Listening-in/pre-listening
Turn the LEVEL control (11) as far as it will go to the left („0“ position) before plugging in,
unplugging or putting on the headphones or switching the mixer on or off. Otherwise you risk
damage to your hearing through excessive volume from the headphone output.
Use the CUE/PGM control (10) to specify whether you want to hear the output signal or the input signal from the
mixer’s individual channels on the headphones.
Move the CUE/PGM control (10) into the „PGM“ position to reproduce the output signal (MASTER signal) on the
headphones.
Move the CUE/PGM control knob (7) into the „CUE“ position to reproduce the input signal of the channel which
has been activated using the CH A/CH B pre-listening switch (6) on the headphones. This position facilitates what
is referred to as „pre-listening“, i.e. you can hear the input signal without it being reproduced via the connected
amplifier. This will enable you to find the correct start point – for example, when cross-fading or mixing.
f) Cross-fading/mixing
You can use the cross-fader (8) to cross-fade/mix between the signals from the two channels.
When the cross-fader (8) is actuated, one channel is faded out (becomes quieter) and the other channel is faded
in (becomes louder) at the same time. In the central position, both fader channels are reproduced equally.
You can influence the cross-fader’s (8) control characteristics with the XF CURVE switch (13). The SHARP
position gives you a sharper control, which is suitable when „scratching“. The GRADUAL position provides softer
control, which is good for smooth cross-fading.
You can switch the direction that the cross-fader (8) operates in (i.e. reverse the channel allocation) with the RIV
X-FADER CONTROL switch (14). In the NORMAL position, channel A is on the left of the cross-fader (8). In the
REVERSED position, channel B is on the left of the cross-fader (8).
g) Using the DJ microphone
If you want to make an announcement, talk into the microphone and use the MIC control (4) to set the volume.
You can influence the sound of the microphone with the sound controls (5) HI and the LOW knob under the MIC
control (4).
Once you have made your announcement, turn the MIC control (4) back to position „0“ to prevent any distortion
or background noise from being output.
