SFX SERIES USER’S GUIDE
Rev 2.2 15
arrow buttons to increment and decrement the numerical value respectively. Use the left or right arrow
buttons to move the cursor left or right respectively, allowing you to change every value of the frequency to
match the satellite's L-Band frequency.
5. Press the green check mark button to accept the frequency changes. Note that the frequency should be
accurate to the last decimal place if possible.
6. Perform similar edit steps to enter the correct carrier symbol rate under the Rate menu. Note that the symbol
rate entered should be accurate to the last decimal place if possible.
7. Perform similar edit steps to select the correct Viterbi Rate for your DVB carrier. For a DVBS carrier, you can
use the up down arrow buttons to select the appropriate Viterbi rate. For a DVBS2 carrier, the Viterbi rate
must always be set to “auto”.
8. Perform similar edit steps to enter the correct NCC PID that carries the IDC Netmanager2 system control
channel within the DVB stream.
9. Perform similar edit steps to specify the correct Polarization. The polarization is selected by setting the LNB
supply voltage for the receiver as either: Horizontal (18 VDC) or Vertical (13 VDC). Note that this menu item
does not turn on the LNB power supply – it only selects the polarization voltage, in the event it is turned on.
To turn on the supply, perform step 12.
10. Perform similar edit steps to specify whether the 22 kHz tone is enabled or disabled on the LNB interface.
Enable the 22 kHz tone if you are powering a universal LNB and you need to use its high band. The default
is to leave this disabled.
11. Once these edit operations are completed, the DVB carrier can be copied to the B Carrier (if you are on
Carrier A, and visa versa). If you are only using one DVB carrier, then it is recommended to have both
Carrier A and B defined the same. This will provide a faster carrier acquisition time.
12. If you need to power your antenna's LNB with the receiver, you must enable the receiver's LNB supply
voltage. To do this, hit the red “X” button to exit the Carrier Menu and hit the down arrow button until you get
to the LNB menu. Once there, hit the green check mark button to enter the LNB Power Supply menu, and
use the up or down arrow buttons to enable the LNB power supply. Hit the green check mark button to
accept the change.
13. If the signal is present at the coaxial cable connected to the L-BAND connector on the rear panel, your
receiver should lock to the DVB carrier, as indicated by the green LOCK LED on the front panel.
Controlling the Receiver with the Terminal Interface
The Terminal Interface allows an installer who does not have a computer with an Ethernet port, or the capability of
running a web browser, access to enough receiver functions to install the unit and acquire lock to a DVB Carrier.
(However, it can also be run at the console terminal or via SSH.) For serial use, simply connect an RS-232 null
modem (cross-over) cable between the COM port on a PC and the TERMINAL interface port (see rear panel figures
earlier in this chapter) of the receiver and run a terminal interface program, such as Hyperterm under Windows®. The
communications parameters are 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity and one stop bit.
The Terminal Interface is designed to be a simple interface that is compatible with most terminal equipment. A basic
TTY-type terminal is supported. Generally, most commands do not support other terminal types and the interface will
not generate or accept ANSI control codes unless specifically documented for each command below. Since most
terminal devices connected to the receiver will probably be DOS/Windows based, the interface sends both carriage
return and line feed characters at the end of each line.
To initiate a terminal session, hit the enter key and at the login prompt, enter the username monitor or admin and the
appropriate password.
