MIDI transmission and reception for

the pad sampler function

Program mode

Data is transmitted and received on the MIDI channel

specified by the Global/Media mode G-MIDI>OUT page

setting Pad Sampler Prog MIDI Ch (default setting: ch.15).

MIDI data transmission is enabled if the Pad Sampler Prog

MIDI Out setting is checked. By default, this is off

(unchecked).

Combination mode

If in the PROG page you turn "SMP" on, the program

assigned to timbre 15 is disabled (will not sound), and

instead the pad sampler on/off events are transmitted and

received on the MIDI channel that is assigned to timbre 15.

If the MIDI timbre's Status (COMBI > PROG) is EXT or

EX2, note data is transmitted.

Note: It is not possible to change the timbre used for the pad

sampler to any setting other than 15.

Sequencer mode

If in the MAIN or PROG page you turn "SMP" on, the

program assigned to track 15 is disabled (will not sound),

and instead the pad sampler on/off events are transmitted and

received on the MIDI channel that is assigned to track 15.

This lets you record and play back on the track. If the track's

Status (SEQ>PROG) is BTH, EXT, or EX2, note data is

transmitted.

Note: It is not possible to change the track used for the pad

sampler to any setting other than 15.

Using samples in other ways

Samples recorded on the KROSS can also be used in other

ways as well as playing them back from the pads.

Here are some possibilities.

• Use for recordings in Sequencer mode

Pad playback (on/off) data can be recorded as note data in

Sequencer mode. (“Recording your pad sampler

performance” on page 62)

• Play samples as programs

A bank (session) of recorded samples can be converted to

a program and played on the keyboard or processed by

the KROSS's effects. (“Convert Current Bank to

Program” on page 207 of the Parameter Guide)

Exporting a sample

Using the "Export to KSC" function or "Export to WAV"

function, a sample that you recorded with the pad sampler

can be exported as a .KSC file or as a sample file in WAVE

format. When you execute these functions, a .KSC file or

WAVE file is created in the SD card's KORG/KROSS2/

DATA folder.

.KSC file:

The data is exported as a Korg-format PCM data file, with a

multisample and sample file for each bank. This data can be

loaded into a sampling-capable model such as the KRONOS

series, OASYS, M3, or TRITON series, and played.

WAVE file:

The data is exported as a .WAV format sample file. A

computer application that supports WAVE format can load

this data, allowing you to use samples that were recorded on

the KROSS.

• File format: WAVE format uncompressed linear PCM

• Sampling bit depth: 16-bit

• Sampling frequency: 48 kHz

During last night's gig, my Kross 2 started changing "Favorites" - one after the other - switching through the banks and sounds, while I was playing. What could cause that. It didn't do it all the time, just every now and then at random. Submitted on 4-9-2022 at 00:59
