Enrouler une feuille de papier pour en faire un tube produit quelque chose d’assez résistant. Vous pouvez le prouver
en comprimant le tube dans sa longueur. Essayez de lui faire supporter plusieurs charges pour voir ce qu’il peut
soutenir avant de s’effondrer.
Pliez des feuilles de papier selon les formes suivantes et observez quelles charges elles sont en mesure de supporter.
Les prédictions à propos de la force de chacune des formes peuvent être faites avant de tenter l’expérience. Pour une
expérience juste, les piliers doivent toujours être placés à la même distance. Placez chaque feuille de papier (poutre)
tour à tour sur les piliers et placez un poids au centre (fig. 18). Commencez par le poids le plus petit et augmentez
graduellement, jusqu’à ce que la poutre tombe. Inscrivez les résultats dans un tableau comme celui présenté
ci-dessous (fig. 19).
Cette méthode peut aussi être utilisée pour expérimenter différents types de papier ou de carton.

la forme d’un matériau, nous pouvons utiliser ce qui

construire des structures solides.
