Before you begin
Place the game board in the center of the playing area. Put the two fish on the plate at the
finish area. Each child chooses a penguin baby and a matching penguin mommy, placing both
on one of the nests. Have the die ready.
Let’s play!
The game proceeds clockwise. The child who last saw a penguin gets to roll the die first.
Ask the child, what do you see on the die?
• 1, 2 or 3
little penguin footprints?
Move the
penguin baby the correct number of squares forwards.
• 1, 2 or 3
large penguin footprints?
Move the penguin mommy the correct number of squares forwards.
Pay close attention:
• Each penguin twosome has their own route and can only use this route to reach
their goal. The penguins do not move backwards.
• When a penguin mommy lands on her baby‘s square, she places herself over him
and they move ahead together when large penguin footprints appear on the die.
If small penguin footprints are shown, the baby moves ahead alone.

If the penguin baby reaches the plate of fish first, he waits for his mommy.
Now, the mommy proceeds whether small or large penguin footprints are shown
on the die.
Now it’s the next child’s turn to roll the die.
End of the game
As soon as a penguin mommy and penguin baby of one color has both arrived at the plate of
fish, the game ends. Whether the baby arrives first or the two arrive together is not important.
This child‘s penguin twosome has won the game and gets to enjoy the delicious fish.
Winning and losing … are both part of playing! Whoever wins is as happy
as a lark. Whoever loses is sad, disappointed, and sometimes even angry.
Show interest in your child’s emotions, be happy for him or comfort him.
Children who just lost need to be reassured. Let them know that they’ll
have another chance in the next game. They will become emotionally
stronger and better prepared for life’s up and downs.
