Filling the Portaﬁ lter

1. After inserting the sieve insert (14) into the portaﬁ lter (8), use the measuring spoon

(16) to ﬁ ll it with espresso powder (see Illustration C1). Do not overﬁ ll it!

2. Use the pressing aid (15) to press the espresso powder down ﬁ rmly in the sieve insert

(see Illustration C2).

3. Remove excess espresso powder from the edge of the portaﬁ lter (see Illustration C3).

Inserting the Portaﬁ lter into the Device

1. Hold the ﬁ lled portaﬁ lter (8) by the handle and place it in the device (see Illustration D1).

2. Turn the portaﬁ lter to the right (see Illustration D2) until the handle points forwards

(see Illustration D3).

Removing the Portaﬁ lter from the Device

1. Hold the portaﬁ lter (8) by the handle and turn it to the left.

2. Pull the portaﬁ lter down out of the device.

Emptying the Portaﬁ lter

1. Flip up the sieve insert retaining clip (19) on the handle of the portaﬁ lter (18). It stops

the sieve insert (14) being able to fall out.

2. Tap out the portaﬁ lter over a dustbin.

3. Flip the sieve insert retaining clip back down again and remove the sieve insert from

the portaﬁ lter.

4. Clean the sieve insert and the portaﬁ lter (see the “Care and Storage” chapter).

Tips

To enjoy an aromatic espresso, note the following tips:

• Always preheat the cups on the hotplate (13).

• Rinse out the cups with hot water immediately before using them.

• Always ﬁ ll the water tank (2) with fresh water. Do not use any water that has been in

the water tank for longer than 12 hours.

• After it has heated up, ﬁ rst allow hot water to run through the sieve insert (14) and the

portaﬁ lter (8) before they are ﬁ lled with espresso powder.

• Experiment with the amount of espresso powder to suit your own personal taste. As

a guideline, you can reckon on 7 g of espresso powder for a normal cup of espresso.

• If possible, always use freshly ground espresso powder to achieve an optimum ﬂ a-

vour.

• The grinding ﬁ neness of the espresso powder also has an inﬂ uence on the aroma

and the crema.

• Do not press down the espresso powder too ﬁ rmly. If the espresso powder is pressed

too much, this may increase the processing time, thus producing increased levels of

bitter compounds.

• Empty and clean the sieve insert after each use.

• Regularly clean and descale the device (see the “Care and Storage” chapter – “Des-

caling”). A dirty and / or furred-up device compromises the ﬂ avour.
