Felling
Fig. 9a
Felling consists of 2 main cutting
operations: making 2 notching cuts and
making one felling cut.
For felling cuts and cross cuts, the spike
bar must safely adhere to the cut wood.
The felling cut must be made in the
desired fall direction as close to the
ground as possible.
First cut the felling notch obliquely from above,
then horizontally.
Cut the felling cut horizontally in the opposite
direction to the felling notch. The cut must be
made ca 3-5 cm higher than the horizontal
notch.
There must be a joint bar between the
notch and the cut, whose width is ca
1/10 of the tree trunk diameter.
If the tree starts falling during the cut,
immediately remove the chainsaw from the
cut and leave via the safety route away from
danger.
Beware of falling branches.
If the tree remains standing, fell it by using
wedges which are driven into the felling cut.
Beware of falling branches.
Bucking and Limbing
Always ensure your foothold. Do not
stand on the log.
Be alert to the rolling over of a cut log.
Especially when working on a slope,
stand on the uphill side of the log.
Follow the instructions in “For Safe
Operation” to avoid kickback of the saw.

Before starting work, check the direction of
bending force inside the log to be cut. Always
finish cutting from the opposite side of the
bending direction to prevent the guide bar from
being caught in the cut.

Saw down halfway, then roll the log over and cut
from the opposite side.
In area A, saw up from the bottom one-third and
finish by sawing down from the top .In area B, saw
down from the top one-third and finish by sawing
up from the bottom.
Cutting the limbs of Fallen Tree

First check to which side the limb is bent. Then
make the initial cut from the bent side and finish
by sawing from the opposite side.
Be alert to the springing back of a cut
limb.
Pruning of Standing Tree
Fig. 9e
Cut up from the bottom, finish down from the top.
Do not use an unstable foothold or
ladder.
Do not overreach.
Do not cut above shoulder height.
Always use both your hands to
hold the saw.
