Charge Status Charging Phase
6.4 CHARGING
6.4.1 CHARGING PHASES
6.4.2 CHARGE STATUS
During the charging process, the battery must not be loaded by the connected loads. Before charging, make
sure that all devices to be charged are switched o.
Connect the charging adapter with the charging cable (Position 7 in the Overview) of the battery charger. Should the battery be incorrectly
connected (reverse polarity), a warning light (Position 2 in the overview) will light up. Correct the connection to the battery terminals. Now
connect the mains connection cable (Position 8 in the overview) of the battery charger to the power socket. The operation light (Position 1 in the
overview) is activated. The charging process is started automatically.
The battery charger performs the charging process in dierent phases in order to optimally charge the battery.
The charge status of the battery can be read on the charge status indicators (Positions 3 to 6 in the overview).
The battery is checked to determine the state of charge. If the battery is in normal condition (battery voltage > 10.5 V ± 0.25 V), pulse charging is
skipped and normal charging (bulk) is started directly. If the battery is near complete discharge (battery voltage < 10.5 V ± 0.25 V), the charging
process is started with pulse charging to reactivate the battery. At a battery voltage < 4.5 V, the charger recognizes the battery as defective. No
charging will occur.
In this phase, the battery receives most of its energy. Here the battery receives approx. 80% of its capacity. The charger delivers a charging current
between 7 A and 3 A.
The battery will be fully charged with a constant current of 1.5 A.
This phase is for charge maintenance. The battery is consistently checked. Should the voltage drop, it is recharged with a very small current.
If the battery voltage drops below 12.8 V, the charger recharges with a constant current of 1.5 A until the battery voltage has reached 14.4 V.
The charger then switches back to the „Trickle Charge“ phase.
