Some things you should know about
tanning
The radiation of the units is of the best possible
composition. Special lamps feature a particularly large
portion of the mild UVA rays which helps to avoid
sunburn while at the same time tanning sets in rapidly.
Apart from the cosmetic effects, sensible tanning also
may strengthen the physical well being. Additionally,
favourable effects can be achieved in the case of some
skin diseases. In the case of such diseases, however,
a physician should be seen at any rate. A tanning unit
can develop its full capacities only if the normal
requirements are complied with. On people who do
not tan in natural sunlight the radiation of the tanning
unit will remain without effect.
Taking the above into consideration, the following
precautions must be observed:
- Always use goggles
- Remove cosmetics well in advance to starting
the tanning session and do not use sunscreen
- Do not expose yourself to tanning units if due to
a medication the sensitivity of your skin to
ultraviolet radiation is increased. When in doubt
ask your physician
- Always put one day between two tanning
sessions, do not sunbathe on the same day
- Observe all recommendations with regard to
session time, frequency and distances to be kept
- See a physician if persistent swellings, sores or
pigmented moles form on your skin.
Information on tanning sessions
UV-units must not be used by people who in natural
sunlight burn without tanning (skin type I), by people
who tend to burn easily, by children under the age of
16 or by person who have a history of or a tendency to
cancer of the skin.
All unit-specific recommendations with regard to
session time and frequency of tanning sessions must
be observed.
Do not use the unit when the timer is defect or when
the filter glass is broken.
Ultraviolet radiation of the sun or of UV units may be
hazardous to skin or eyes. The biological effects
depend on the type and the amount of the radiation
as well as on the individual sensitivity of the skin.
As a consequence of excessive exposure the skin
might burn. Excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation
of the sun or of UV units may lead to premature ageing
of the skin and to an increased risk of cancer of the
skin.
If the eye is not protected its surface might become
inflamed and in certain cases excessive exposure may
be hazardous to the retina. After many tanning
sessions an eye cataract may develop.
In the case of increased sensitivity to ultraviolet
radiation and in the case of certain cosmetics or
medication being used particular caution is advised.
Distance during tanning session
The distance to be kept during a tanning session
depends on the type of unit and should never be
reduced.
After the tanning session
It is advisable to apply a skin lotion after the tanning
session.
