Defrost
• The DEFROST setting allows for simple defrosting of frozen foods. Energy
from the microwave oven heats the outside of the food, and the heat works its way
to the inside of the product. This causes it to defrost evenly.
• Remove all packaging and place the food on a plate.
• When defrosting, follow these rules:
Covering
Dishes should be covered in order to:
o speed up defrosting
o prevent drying-out
o avoid spraying of fat inside the unit.
Exceptions: Bread, breaded dishes and other foods which should be crunchy should not
be covered.
Turning/mixing
Almost every dish needs to be turned or mixed during defrosting. Separate pieces of
dishes from each other as quickly as possible.
Smaller portions
Smaller portions defrost quicker and more evenly than large ones. For this reason it is
necessary to cut dishes into smaller portions prior to defrosting. In this manner a
complete menu can be quickly and simply composed.
Delicate dishes
Delicate dishes, such as pate, cake, cream, cheese or bread should be only partially
defrosted and allowed to finish defrosting at room temperature.
In this way the dishes will not get hot on the outside while remaining frozen on the
inside.
Time after defrosting
The time after defrosting when the dish is left out is very important, as it guarantees the
food's complete defrosting. The defrosting table shows the length of time appropriate for
various dishes. After complete defrosting dishes should be prepared as quickly as
possible and not refrozen.
