Turning Handset On/Off
When you place the handset on the charger, it automatically turns on.
To turn the handset on
(when it's off), keep the end/on/off key pressed until you switch the
display on. Symbols of display are stated in chapter Meaning of the Main Icons on page 82.
To turn the handset off
, keep the end/on/off key pressed until the Good bye message
appears. Then the display turns off.
Nothing will appear on the display when the battery power is very low. You should fully charge the
handset before using it.
The first time the phone turns on, the display shows the handset and the base number, e.g. HS(1)
and BS(1). You can choose to assign a name to the handset, to change the language and to set
the date, time and other parameters. For further details please see chapter Setting a Handset Name
on page 126, chapter Selecting a Language on page 126, chapter Setting Display on page 127 and
chapter Setting Date & Time on page 92.
Choosing the Dial Mode
In order to provide compatibility with other telephone systems, your phone can be set to either pulse
dialing (rotary), or tone dialing (DTMF). Your phone is preset to the tone dialing, anyway if you are
not sure which dialing requires your telephone network please contact your local service provider.
To change the dialing mode:
MENU
Press the MENU soft key to display the main
menu items.
SELECT
Press the navigation keys to choose 3.Setting,
and press the SELECT soft key.
SELECT
Press repeatedly the navigation keys to
choose 8.Dial Mode, and press the SELECT
soft key. The display asks you to enter the
Base PIN (identification code).

SELECT
Enter the base PIN (preset at the factory to
0000) and press the SELECT soft key. The cur-
rent setting appears.
SELECT
Press the navigation keys to choose TONE or
PULSE, then press the SELECT soft key to
save the selection.
Press the end/on/off key to return to Standby
mode (waiting for incoming calls).
