Replicating discs
To produce multiple copies of your DVD or Blu-ray disc, you can burn them yourself, either in Encore or by using
a third-party mastering application. Producing them in Encore works best for limited quantities and requires the
appropriate hardware or software. However, if you require a large quantity of discs, use a professional replication
facility for mass production. Most replication facilities can accept files in DLT format or as single-layer DVD images
(without copy protection applied). For specific information, contact your replication facility.
Note: DVDs that use copy protection or region coding must currently be replicated at a professional replication facility.
(The replication facility collects royalties.) If you burn these types of DVDs from Encore, the resulting discs work, but
they do not include copy protection or may not include region coding. For information on region coding, see “Set region
coding for replicated DVDs” on page 174. For information on copy protection, see “Set copy protection for replicated
DVDs” on page 173.
Exporting projects to Flash format
Export your current project to Flash
Just as easily as building your project to a DVD or Blu-ray Disc, you can export your project to a Flash SWF file that
lets you play it in a web browser. Encore creates a folder on your hard drive that contains the Flash project file and
other files necessary for viewing the project on the web, including the index.html page that displays the First Play
setting in the project.
You can choose between four Quality settings for playback, all of which involve trade-offs between display quality
and download size. Encore targets all projects for playback in a 640 x 480-pixel rectangle on the computer screen. If
played back through a projector, or by embedding the SWF file in your own web page, the playback size might be
resized. Widescreen media is letter boxed in the frame.
1 Choose Window > Build. If you havent checked your project for broken links or specified the First Play setting,
you can do so from the Build panel by clicking Check Project. (For information, see “Check a project” on page 172.)
2 In the Build panel, choose Flash from the Format menu. The settings Output: Flash (.swf) and Source: Current
Project become automatically specified by default.
3 Specify the destination for the exported Flash files by typing the location file path or clicking Browse to enter the
location.
4 Under Settings, type a name for the project folder and choose an option from the Quality menu:
Low Provides the smallest media size at the expense of video and audio quality. Use for that rare case when you want
to e-mail the smallest version of the project.
Medium Use for Internet delivery at a bandwidth to accommodate DSL level bandwidths—something between 500
and 750 Kbps.
High Use for Internet delivery at broadband data rates—something between 750 Kbps and 2 Mbps. This setting is
also useful for sharing the project across a local area network (LAN). When sharing across a LAN, the speed of the
data server is likely the limiting factor.
Ultra Useforplaybackfromalocalcomputer,oradedicateddataserverorsharedharddrive.Thisoptionprovides
the highest image quality and also the largest media size.
Note: The Quality setting you choose has no effect on the speed of generating the output. It takes just as long for Encore
to generate a project with the Low quality setting as it does for the Ultra setting.
