AHEAD STEMS
This stem has an open end and is attached to the handlebar with locking bolts. In addition, it has a
cover cap.
i To adjust the stem, you have to loosen the cover cap and the locking screws by turning them in anti-clockwise direction using an Allen key. When you loosen
the cap completely to fit or change the stem, make sure that the fork is on the ground, or if this is not possible, that you hold it tightly. If you loosen the
cover cap, it could fall through, resulting in the loss of components.
ii Once it is loosened, you can adjust the stem so that it is in line with the front wheel.
iii When tightening, start with the cap and tighten it until the stem and fork are fixed, but the stem still rotates from left to right. Then tighten the locking
screws so that the stem is aligned with the fork. (It may be easier to do this once the wheel has been fitted to match it with the handlebar.)
Note: The height of the stem cannot be changed with this type. If you need to change the height, you should ask a qualified bike mechanic for advice on the different types of stem and which
one best suits your riding style.
To fit or remove a handlebar, you need to open the clamping device at the front of the stem (there are usually two or four), then insert the handlebar and tighten
EACH NUT GRADUALLY IN TURN so that the distance between the stem and the clamp remains the same. Ensure that the handlebar is centred in the stem.
If you need to adjust the angle of the handlebar, you can do so by loosening the clamps slightly, turning the handlebar to the desired angle, taking care to keep it
centred, and then retightening the clamps.
