Connecting to a Computer and Other MIDI Devices
Since the CP33 has no built-in speakers, you'll need an external audio system or a set of stereo headphones to
properly monitor it. Alternatively, you could use a pair of headphones.
There are several methods of connecting to external audio equipment, as described in the following
illustrations.
For optimum, accurate reproduction of the instrument’s rich sounds, effects and full stereo image, use a pair of
powered speakers. Connect the powered speakers to the OUTPUT L/MONO and R jacks on the rear panel.
n When using just one powered speaker, connect it to the OUTPUT L/MONO jack on the rear panel.
n If you are connecting only to the L/MONO jack and want to use a Piano Voice, we recommend that you use the
MONO PIANO Voice for best results.
n Connecting a pair of headphones does not affect audio output from the OUTPUT L/MONO, R jacks. You can
adjust the volume of the external audio equipment or headphones with the [MASTER VOLUME] dial.
n The sound monitored through the headphones is identical to the sound of the OUTPUT L/MONO, R jacks.
Using a standard MIDI cable (available separately), you can connect an external MIDI device, and control it
from the CP33. Likewise, you can use an external MIDI device (such as a keyboard or sequencer) to control
the sounds on the CP33.

About MIDI
MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a standard format for data transmission/reception. It
enables the transfer of performance data and commands between MIDI devices and personal computers.
Using MIDI, you can control a connected MIDI device from the CP33, or control the CP33 from a
connected MIDI device or computer.
MIDI Channel
MIDI data is transferred over 16 channels numbered from 1 through 16. This allows the performance
data for sixteen different instrument parts to be simultaneously sent over one MIDI cable. Think of the
MIDI channels as TV channels. Each TV station transmits its broadcasts over a specific channel. Your
home TV set receives many different programs simultaneously from several TV stations and you select the
appropriate channel to watch the desired program.
