d) Direct current measurement
Never exceed the maximum permissible input value for each measuring range.
The maximum permissible voltage in the circuit against ground potential may not exceed 500 V in
CAT III.
In the current measuring range, always shut off the circuit before connecting/disconnecting the
test leads. Risk of electric shock!
Proceed as follows to measure direct currents up to 10 A/DC:
- Turn the rotary switch to the measuring range 10A .
- Connect the black test lead to the COM socket (6) and the red test lead to the 10A
socket (4).
- Zero the multimeter using the adjustment screw (3).
- Make sure that the “Vrms/Vp-p” button (9) is not pressed.
- Verify correct polarity (red = positive potential (+) / black = negative potential (-))
and connect both test leads in parallel to the measuring object (battery, circuit, etc.).
- In case of reverse polarity, no value will be shown. The protective diode blocks
measurement. Interrupt the measurement and correct polarity before repeating the
measurement.
- Read the measured value from the “A” scale.
- After measurement, turn the rotary switch to position “OFF” to turn off the multimeter.
Proceed as follows to measure direct currents up to 250 mA/DC:
- Select the appropriate measuring range for measurements in the mA/μA range.
- Connect the black test lead to the COM socket (6) and the red test lead to the mA
socket (7).
