14. OPERATION CHECKS
14.1 Check reference pressure
The appliance is pre-set to give the correct heat
input at the manifold pressure shown in section 3 of
this manual. No adjustment is necessary. Check the
burner pressure by fitting a pressure gauge at the
test point. The test point is on the pipe situated
below the bottom right corner of the burner unit
(See figure 28). Check the pressure with the
appliance burning and the slide control set at high
heat.
All piping and connections must be tested for leaks
after installation or servicing. All leaks must be
corrected immediately.
a. Open the manual shut-off valve.
b. Test for leaks by applying a liquid detergent
or soap solution to all joints. Bubbles forming
indicate a gas leak.
NEVER USE AN OPEN FLAME TO
CHECK FOR LEAKS.
d. Correct any leak detected immediately.
14.2 “Visage” front; Fit the fire front casting to the front
surround. Locate the two screw heads at the rear
top corners of the casting through the keyhole slots
at the inner sides of the surround. If the screw
heads do not project enough or project too far, the
screws can be adjusted. Lower the casting so that it
rests on the floor (see figure 29).
14.3 Check valve control and slide control for proper
operation as described in the lighting instructions
section further on in this manual.
14.4 Check venting efficiency
A check for correct venting of combustion products
must be made before the installed appliance is left
with the customer.
You will need a mirror for this check. The mirror
must be cold and dry for the check so keep in a cool
place it away from the room containing the
appliance while the fire is warming up.
14.4.1 Open the gas valve. Place the ashpan cover in
position below the fire front casting.
14.4.2 Light the appliance and set the slide control to high
heat.
14.4.3 Leave the appliance on for five minutes.
14.4.4 Make sure that the mirror is cold and dry. Place the
mirror face downwards touching the bottom front
of the black cross member and angled slightly
upwards so that the mirror face can be seen.
The mirror face should remain clear for at least 5
seconds.
If condensation appears over the mirror face
within 5 seconds the venting is incorrect. Don’t
allow the appliance to be used until the
problem is cured.
