56 TREK ASSEMBLY MANUAL 27 April 2012
Supporting Information
Trek frame alignment
At Trek, every frame is checked for alignment. Every eort is made to ensure
accuracy. When we check alignment on the alignment table, we are working with raw
frames without parts, paint, or head badges. We avoid errors that can arise when
measuring to painted surfaces.
Alignment table
In our alignment process, the frame is secured to the alignment table by the drive
side of the bottom bracket shell. This means we have a at surface mated to a at
surface, so we are not measuring to the outside of round surfaces.
With the bottom bracket secured, we validate the alignment of the head tube, seat
tube, and rear centerline. Then we check the rear triangle position.
High level of accuracy
The tolerances for each portion of these tests have dierent values. However, the
end result is a frame with excellent alignment, less than 2mm from centerline. If 2mm
seems like a lot, that’s the most variance we allow. To put it in perspective, it’s about
twice the width of this dot:
Every frame is perfect
When a frame passes each of these tests, it meets our tolerances for overall
alignment. These tests focus on the attachment points of the components. We are
condent that every bike that passes our alignment tests will ride just as the engineer
intended: perfectly.
