8.3 Calibration using external batteries
Calibration trip
WARNING!
Danger to life from a boat which is not manoeuvrable!
This can result in severe physical injuries or death.
Before starting a trip, inform yourself of the intended travel area, and take
note of the predicted weather and water conditions.
Depending on the size of the boat, keep the typical safety equipment ready
(anchor, paddles, means of communication, auxiliary drive if necessary).
Check the system for mechanical damage before setting out on a trip.
Do not use the system unless it is in proper working order.
WARNING!
Danger of injury from incorrect calibration trip.
This can result in severe physical injuries or death.
Attach the boat to the landing stage in such a way that it cannot break free.
There must always be one person in the boat during calibration.
Make sure that there is nobody in the water and, if necessary, take steps to
make uninvolved persons aware of the rotating propeller.
A calibration trip is necessary when the motor is used with external batteries. Before
the start of each season, or every six months, carry out a calibration trip, so that the
onboard computer can analyse and take into account the ageing of your battery
bank.
ADVICE
Do not switch off the system during calibration.
Depending on the size of the battery bank, very long running times may
result.
Proceed as follows:
1. Charge the battery until it is 100 % charged.
2. Set the state of charge to 100 %, as described in the accelerator lever manual.
3. Start the calibration trip.
4. During the calibration trip, ensure that the battery is sufficiently charged, so that
you can return to the berth or landing stage at any time in order to be able to
discharge the batteries there.
5. Attach the boat to the landing stage or berth.
6. At the landing stage or berth, run the battery until it is flat.
During the last half hour of the calibration trip, the motor's power
consumption must be between 50 and 400 Watt.
The motor switches itself off automatically, and this completes the
calibration.
7. Recharge the battery immediately after the calibration trip.
