INSTALLATION
1. Place your TOPCOM CLEO on a hard flat surface.
2. Lift the cassette compartment lid and insert the microcassette.
3. Attach the small plug on the AC ADAPTOR CORD to the 9V jack in the back of the
answering machine.
4. Plug the other end of the AC ADAPTOR CORD into a standard wall outlet.
5. Plug one end of the TELEPHONE LINE CORD into the jack of the telephone answer-
ing system marked TEL LINE.
6. Plug the other end of the TELEPHONE LINE CORD into the house telephone jack.
7. Insert one end of the COILED CORD into the modular plug of the HANDSET.
8. Insert the other end into the modular plug on the left side of the unit.
9. Lift the HANDSET and confirm that you have a dial tone.
10. If you do not get a dial tone, please review steps 3 to 9.
NOTE: To avoid possible interference between your CLEO and a cordless telephone,
connect your cordless telephone to a separate phone line jack, away from the
Telephone Answering System

TELEPHONE OPERATION
Tone and Pulse Dialling (20)
If your home is equipped with a Touch Tone dialling system, set the Tone/Pulse
selector switch to the Tone position. If you have a rotary dialling system, set the
selector switch to the Pulse position.
If you are unsure which system you have, set the selector switch to the Tone posi-
tion. Lift the handset. When you hear a dial tone, dial a telephone number. If the con-
nection is not made, move the selector switch to the Pulse position and try again.
Ringer Volume (21)
Set the ringer switch to the HI or LO position.
Set the ringer switch to the OFF position if you do not want to be disturbed by the
telephone ringing.
REDIAL Button (13)
If the number you dialled is busy or you want to call the last number dialled again,
press the hook switch and release it for a new dial tone. Press the REDIAL button
(13) . The last number called will automatically be redialled.
HOLD Button (15)
The HOLD button (15) enables you to let a conversation wait and to replace
the handset in its cradle. Your interlocutor will hear a melody. The HOLD indicator
(16) will light until you resume the conversation. To resume the conversation, lift the
handset or that of any extension telephone on the same line. The HOLD indicator
(16) will turn off and you can continue your conversation.
