For PTT transmission hold the PTT key while talking at a distance of approxi-
mately 10 cm into the microphone. For details about the VOX mode, see the
section VOX mode.
VOX Mode
VOX stands for voice-operated-transmission, i.e. no PTT key is needed for
transmitting a signal. This feature allows hand-free operation. In some Euro-
pean countries, for the driver of a vehicle, it is no longer permitted to operate
mobile devices for communication while driving if hand-operation is required.
To activate/deactivate the VOX mode, press the transmission key [PTT] (1)
and the menu key [EMG] (6) concurrently. The active VOX mode is indicated
by the microphone symbol “ “ in the LCD, which blinks in transmission mode.
We recommend to test the VOX operation while deciding for the best location
of the microphone in the vehicle. For best results you should be able to talk
directly into the microphone.
The VOX sensitivity and the delay time can be adjusted in the menu (see
VOX L and VOX T).
Please note that the VOX function cannot work if the squelch is open.
Reception
The received signal is audible in the speaker of the radio. The s-meter in the
LCD indicates the signal strength.
Please note that the VX-2412 is equipped with CTCSS/DCS. If CTCSS/DCS
is activated for the actual channel, received signals with non-matching CTC-
SS/DCS codes are not audible in the speaker. In active mode, the according
symbol CTCSS or DCS are displayed in the LCD.
Scan
The scan function searches for signals on the actual frequency norm in the
selected modulation mode (AM/FM). Once a signal has been detected the
scan function pauses according to the selected scan mode (squelch/time)
before it automatically returns to active scanning.
To activate the scan function, hold any of the channel selectors until the
symbol SCAN appears in the LCD. All channels are scanned continuously, in
consecutive order. To stop the scan function, push the PTT key.
Once a signal is present the scan function pauses,
in squelch mode : until the signal ends plus the delay time of a few seconds,
in time mode : for approx. 10 seconds, regardless whether the signal has
ended or not. Then, the scan function continues.
Note: you can change the scan-direction during scanning anytime by pressing
the according channel selector key Up [p] or Down [q].
Priority Channel 9/19
The VX-2412 is equipped with two priority channels, these are preset to the
channel numbers 9 [EMG1] and 19 [EMG2].
The priority channel key [EMG] (6) uses a triple switch to change between pri-
ority channel 1, priority channel 2 and the selected channel in regular mode.
FUNCTION MENU
The function menu manages the following list of functions and their settings.
To access the function menu, press the menu key [EMG] (6) until the regular-
mode screen switches to the rst menu function. The function name is dis-
played on the left, next to the current function setting.
To navigate through the list of menu functions, use the channel selector keys.
To access a function for changing the current setting, press the menu key
[EMG] shortly. The current setting of the selected function starts blinking. Use
the channel selectors to change the setting and press the menu key [EMG]
again to save your selection.
The functions CTCSS/DCS and EMG require more than one step for the con-
guration. Nevertheless, the procedure of selecting (with the channel selec-
tors) and conrming (with the menu key [EMG] (6) remains the same.
To exit the menu, press the menu key [EMG] long. Some menu functions
CTCSS/DCS - Menu: CdTSET
CTCSS and DCS lter unwanted signals on busy frequencies. If activated,
only received signals with the same code will pass and will be audible in the
speaker. Please note: CTCSS/DCS is not a security feature. With the monitor
function or an open squelch, CTCSS-/DCS-encoded signals can be heard.
With this function, select the code type rst, i.e. either CTCSS (Ct) or DCS (dt)
and then the according code, i.e. CTCSS: 1-38 and DCS: 1-104.
Beep Tone - Menu: KEyBP
A beep tone, for conrmation of any key entry, can be activated/deactivated.
