Never start the engine with the battery

disconnected. There is a risk of serious

damage to the alternator and the elec-

trical system.

9.8.4 Cleaning

If the battery terminals are coated with oxide, they

should be cleaned. Clean the battery terminals with

a wire brush and lubricate them with terminal gre-

ase.

9.9 AIR FILTER, ENGINE

plied with the machine.

see chapter 13.

1. Clean carefully around the air lter housing.

2. Remove the air lter cover lter (26:D) by un-

screwing the two screws.

3. Dismantle the pre-lter assembly (26:C).

Remove the paper lter (26:B). Make sure

that no dirt gets into the carburettor. Clean

the air lter housing.

4. Clean the paper lter by tapping it gently

against a at surface. If the lter is very dirty,

replace it.

5. Assemble the lter by performing the above

instructions in reverse order.

Compressed air or petroleum-based solvents such

as kerosene must not be used for cleaning the pa-

per lter insert. This will damage the lter.

Do not use compressed air for cleaning the paper

lter insert. The paper lter insert must not be oiled.

9.9.2 

Remove/install the air lters as follows.

1. Carefully clean around the air lter cover.

2. Remove the air lter cover (29:A) by un-

screwing the two knobs (29:B).

3. Dismantle the lter assembly (29:C). Extract

the pre-lter (29:D).

4. Clean the paper lter by tapping it gently

against a at surface. If the lter is very dirty,

replace it.

5. Clean the pre-lter. If the lter is very dirty,

replace it.

6. Assemble the lter by performing the above

instructions in reverse order.

9.9.3 Spark plug

Before removing the spark plug, clean around its

mounting.

For the type of spark plug and relative spark gap,

please refer to “0 TECHNICAL DATA TABLE.

9.9.4 Air intake

See gure (26:A, 29:E). The engine is air-cooled. A

blocked cooling system can damage the engine.

Clean the engine’s air intake after 50 service

hours. More meticulous cleaning of the cooling

system should be carried out during each basic

service.
