Thermal insulation is required if adjacent construction elements must be protected against high temperatures

(e.g. inflammable materials or load-bearing walls). Insulation wool must have a mass density ≥80 kg/m³ with an

operating temperature limit of at least 750°C. The following thicknesses must be respected for this material:

• Floor 0mm

• Installation wall 140mm

• Ceiling 100mm

• Adjacent wall 80mm

The use of silicate-based insulation allows the insulation thicknesses to be reduced considerably.

A distance of 60mm must be respected between the appliance and the insulation material. If the adjacent

materials are not inflammable or load bearing, this distance can be reduced to 10mm.

The various elements of a cross-section are described below:

A. Inset fire

B. Insulation material

C. Masonry

D. Inflammable wall/elements or load-bearing wall

E. Convection zone

1. 10mm

2. 60mm (regarding inflammable materials)

F. Ceiling made from inflammable materials

G. Furnishing

H. Floor made from non-flammable materials
