Unpack the re carefully and retain the packaging for possible future use , in the event of moving or
returning the re to your supplier . The Remote C ontrol and batteries are packed separat ely in the
carton.
The re incorporates a ame e ect, which can be used with or without heating, so that the comforting
eect may be enjoyed at an y time of the year . Using the ame eect on its own only requires little
electricity.
This model is designed to be installed in a surround or into a wall r ecess.
Before connecting the re check that the supply voltage is the same as that sta ted on the re.
Please note: Used in an environmen t where background noise is very low , it may be possible to hear
a sound which is related to the operation of the ame e ect. This is normal and should not be a cause
for concern.
Electrical connection.

This re must be used on an AC ~ supply only and the v oltage marked on the re must correspond to
the supply voltage.

Do not put plastic components into a dish washer .
Only slide out the drawer when the wa ter tank needs to be lled or a lamp needs to be changed
otherwise you will inadvertently alter the water lev el and the ame eect operation.
Only use tap water in this appliance with a maximum hardness of 10 dH .
Always ensur e that the re is sitting on a level oor .
If you intend not using the appliance f or longer than 2 weeks, drain the water from sump and
water tank and dry the sump.
Once installed, never move this re or lay on its back, without draining the water from sump
and water tank.
The water tank, sump, sump lid, tank cap and air lters must be cleaned once every two weeks,
particularly in hard water areas.
The re appliance should never be operated if the lamps are not working.
The lamps should be regularly inspected as described under ‘Maintenance’ and ‘Changing
lamps’.
Installation Instructions
Ensure that all packing items are remov ed (read any warning labels carefully).
Retain all packing for possible future use, in the ev ent of moving or returning the appliance to
your supplier .
T o reduce heat losses and to prev ent any chimney updraugh t aecting the operation of your
re we rec ommend that the chimney ue is blocked o , ensure that there is a slight gap for
ventilation.
Insert bulbs rst before you connect to mains.

T o install the appliance;
Hold the re by the sides of surround and gently manoeuvre int o position. Plug the re into a
13amp/240 volt outlet. Ensure that the supply cable exits at the fr ont of the re, at the right or left
hand corner to suit your supply socket location and is not trapped under the re such that it migh t
cause it to be damaged.

similarly qualied person in order to av oid a hazard.
Keep the supply cord a way from the fr ont of the re.
W ARNING: I n order to av oid overheating , do not cover the re. Do not place ma terial or
garments on the re, or obstruct the air circulation ar ound the re.
The re carries the W arning symbol indicating that it must not be cov ered.

Before using the manual controls rstly ll the w ater tank (See ‘Maintenance’ , ‘Filling the water
tank’).
Manual Controls.
The manual controls are locat ed behind the drawer .
(See Fig.2 f or Manual Control lay out)
Switch ‘ A’:- Contr ols the electricity supply to the re.
Note: This switch must be in the ‘ON’ ( I ) position for the re to oper ate with or without heat.
Switch ‘B’:- Controls the function of the re.
Press once to turn on ame e ect. This will be indicated b y one beep.
Although the main lights operate immediately it will take a further 30 seconds before the
ame eect starts.
Press again to give ame e ect and half heat. This will be indicated by two beeps.
Press again to give ame e ect and full heat. T his will be indicated by three beeps.
Press again to return to ame e ect only.

Control Knob ‘C’:- Controls the intensity of the ame eect.
T urning the control knob clockwise increases the ame eect, turning the control knob anti-
clockwise will decrease the ame eect.
When the water tank is empty the main lamps go out. See instructions under ‘Maintenance’ , ‘Filling the
water tank’ . When this procedure is c omplete, the main lamps will illuminate but it will take 30 seconds
before the ames return.
Remote Control Oper ation
On the control panel, Swit ch A (see Fig.2) must be in the ‘ON ’ ( I ) position in order for the remote
control to operate . There are 3 buttons on the r emote control. (See F ig.7)
T o operate correctly the remote must be pointed towards the fr ont fuel eect.

Battery Information.
1. Unclip the battery cover on the back of the remote contr ol. (See Fig .7)
2. Install AAA batteries into the remote contr ol.
3. Replace the battery cover .
Discard leaky batteries.
Dispose of batteries in the proper manner according t o provincial and local regulations.
Any battery may leak electrolyte if mixed with a dier ent battery type, if inserted incorrectly, if all the
batteries are not replaced at the same time , if disposed of in a re, or if an attempt is made to char ge a
battery not intended to be recharged.
Thermal safety cut-out
A thermal safety cut-out is incorporated in the fan heater to preven t damage due to overheating. This
can happen if the heat outlet is restricted in any way . If the cut- out operates, unplug the re from the
socket outlet and allow approximately 10 minut es before reconnecting . Before switching the re back
on remove any obstruction that may be r estricting the heat outlet, then continue normal operation.
Tips for using y our appliance.
1. Only pull out the drawer when its time to rell the w ater tank or change a lamp, otherwise it may
lead to excess wat er in the sump and reduced ame eect. If this happens empty the water from the
sump as instructed under ‘Maintenance’ .
2. W ith the ame setting on minimum the unit will use approximately 40ml of w ater per hour and will
last 3 times as long than when it is at maximum ame setting.
3. Do not tilt or move the re while there is wat er in the tank or sump.
4. Make sure that the re is on a level oor .
5. T he ame control knob ‘C’ (Fig.2) may be turned up or down to giv e a more realistic eect.
6. Sometimes the ames appear more real when the ame control knob is turned down.
7. Give the ame generator some time to react to changes y ou may make on the ame control knob.
Maintenance

Changing lamps.
If a large amount of the smoke appears grey or colourless it may be that one or mor e lamps have
failed.
Y ou can check for lamp failure as follows.
1. Leaving the ame eect on, open the draw er fully, gen tly pull the drawer fully out by the tab . (See
Fig.3)
2. V iew the lamps from a distance in front of the r e and observe which lamp needs to be changed.
3. Put Switch ‘ A’ in the ‘OFF’ position, and unplug the re from the mains.
4. Leave the appliance f or 20 minutes to allow the lamps to cool do wn before removing them.
5. Remove the water tank by lifting upwar ds and place in a sink.
6. Remove the sump as described in the Cleaning Section.
7. Remove the defective lamp , by gently lifting vertically and disengaging the pins from the lamp
holder , (See Fig .4 and 5). Replace with a Mystic original, 12V , 50W, Gu5.3 base, 8º beam angle , coloured
lamp. Pur chase the lamps from your local supplier .
8. Carefully insert the two pins of the new lamp into the two holes in the lamp holder . Push rmly in
place. (See Fig .4 and 5).
9. Replace the sump and water tank and carefully close the draw er .
10. Switch on.
