ROTWILD USER MANUAL
WHEELS
The basic components of the wheels
of your ROTWILD bike are the hub, the
spokes and the rim. The hub contains the
quick-releases with which your wheels are
attached to the frame. The inside of the
rim contains the rim tape that prevents
the sensitive inner tube inside the tyre
coming into contact with the sharp-edged
spoke nipples. When mounting a new
tyre, please make sure you have the right
dimensions (size and width).
Tips concerning air pressure
Your wheels will only function perfect-
ly when the tyres are inflated to the
recommended pressure. This is usually
printed on the walls of the tyres.
A slight improvement in cycling comfort
is possible if you reduce the recom-
mended tyre pressure by 10-25%.
Always make sure there is enough air in
your tyres. Only in this way can you be
certain that the inner tube will not be
pinched (Snake Bite) when riding over
sharp edged obstacles.
If you inflate your tyres at a filling
station, please take care to inflate your
tyres in short bursts of air and constant
checking of the manometer reading.
These tyre pumps provide high inflation
pressure that could over pressure and
burst your bike tyres.
Use a so-called floor pump to pump up
your tyres at home. With this type of
pump, it is perfectly simple to ensure
the appropriate air pressure in your
tyres. You can check the pressure with
a manometer.
Always take a hand pump along on
every ride to reinflate your tyres to the
correct pressure in the case of a punc-
ture or loss of air.
Air pressure
Never pump up your tyres to a pressure
higher than the maximum permissible
pressure. This could cause tyres to burst
or slip off the rims while cycling.
Note
If it should become necessary to remove
the wheels for transportation, please take
care not to bend the brake disc located
on the left hand side of the wheel. A bent
disc can lead to uneven rotation in the
calliper and abrasion.
When transporting the bicycle with the
wheels removed a transport safety device
provided for the purpose should be
inserted between the brake pads. This is
to prevent the brake pads from moving
towards each other.
Air pressure units
As a rule, air pressure is given in Bar or
the English units PSI – see conversion
table.
PSI BAR
20 1,4
30 2,1
40 2,8
50 3,5
60 4,1
Mounting and removing wheels
If you have to remove a tyre to repair a
puncture, or if you are preparing your
ROTWILD bike for transport, it may be-
come necessary to remove one or both of
the wheels and remount them later.
Note
Please note, the disc brakes become ex-
tremely hot during braking. Let the discs
cool for a while if you intend removing
the wheels shortly after braking.
