ROTWILD USER MANUAL | 2014
configure the rebound speed of the fork. The ad-
justment knob for that is located at the bottom
of the right fork blade.
Too little shock absorption gives you the feeling
as if the bicycle will throw you off, because of
the abruptness of the rebound action. The more
you close the shock absorption, the longer it
will take for the spring to rebound. Too tight
shock absorption causes the fork to drop down
during impacts following quickly on each other,
because it cannot rebound fast enough.
Note
The fine adjustment of the forks requires some
time and patience. If you encounter problems
with the adjustment, please take your bike to a
qualified professional workshop.
Note
Manufacturers of spring forks provide compre-
hensive instruction manuals in which full details
about adjustment possibilities are given. Please
read the instruction manuals carefully before
you start making any adjustments.
FULL SUSPENSION
In addition to the spring fork, your ROTWILD
mountain bike can come with an articulated
chain stay that is spring-mounted and dam-
pened by a rear shock.
Note
Full-suspension bicycles have significantly
bigger ground clearance than bicycles without
springs. At the correct saddle height the feet
cannot touch the ground. Adjust the saddle
lower at the beginning and practice getting on
and off.
The settings of the shock absorber have to be
adjusted according to the purpose of use and
the weight of the cyclist. Already when seated
on the bicycle, the suspension strut of the rear
swing arm must drop down slightly in order for
negative spring deflection (= sag) to develop.
When riding through a hole the rear shock
relaxes and the chain stay evens out the bump.
If the hardness of the rear shock is set too high,
this effect is lost because the bicycle is already
fully rebounded. This basic safety and comfort
feature is then not utilised.
Otherwise the rear shock must be designed, or
adjusted, in such a way that it does not jolt. A
too soft rear shock can be felt and mostly also
clearly heard, which results from the thump-like
full compression of the rear shock when a hard
hit is experienced. If a rear shock is jolted too
often it can be damaged in the long run.
The dampening effect in the rear shock is
regulated internally by the flow of oil and
therefore the speed at which the suspension
strut rebound or deflect. This way the reaction
to obstacles can be adjusted. In addition it is
possible to limit the rocking action of the chain
stay when pedalling.
When riding downhill and in case of bad track
surfaces it can be an advantage if the shock
absorption is opened widely. I fine sense of
touch is called for when making an adjustment,
because even a small change to the adjusting
knob can have a big effect. Make us of quarter
or half turns to slowly reach the most ideal
setting for you.
Air pressure
In your ROTWILD fullsuspension mountain bike,
air is used as suspension medium. The level of
air pressure in the suspension strut is altered
externally with the use of a suitable air pump.
The level of air pressure determines the sus-
pension hardness. The higher the pressure, the
firmer the suspension. Please pay attention to
the pressure information in the special manuals
of the suspension elements. A rule of thumb
