Shift system
Regular maintenance is necessary to guarantee the perfect operation of all shift
system components. The maintenance frequency depends on the intensity of use
and the amount of dirt. As a guideline, we recommend an interval of 3 to 6, and
more often for the chain.
Component ►► Maintenance
Derailleur Clean, grease spring and lubricate joints
Rear derailleur Clean, grease spring and lubricate joints
Shift cables Dismantle, clean, apply a non-acidic grease
(e.g. Vaseline)
Chain rings Remove dirt with a cloth
Sprocket cassette Clean. If required, corrosion protection with a little
spray-wax
Adjustments to the gear unit should be carried out by a specialised dealer, or please
refer to the manufacturers manual.
Chain care
Chain care is a complicated subject. All open chains require intensive care. New
chains are suitably greased straight out of the factory. Subsequent
greasing/lubrication
should only be applied when first chain/running noises become noticeable. Remove
dirt from your chain from time to time, as necessary. Use an oiled, lint-free rag or
cloth. Do not use de-greasers.
After cleaning, apply a low-viscosity, biodegradable chain-oil. Apply sparingly, the
amount is not decisive, it is important that the oil is evenly distributed. Apply the
lubricant to the lower chain strand from above and turn the crank a few times. Apply
one drop of oil to the rollers and to both sides of the chain, where the inner and
outer links touch.
Let your bike stand for a minute to enable the lubricant to work into the chain links,
then wipe off excess lubricant with a cloth.
Regular chain maintenance ensures a longer chain lifespan. However: The chain
is a component subject to wear. The chain must be replaced as soon as possible
as soon as a certain amount of elongation (note stretching or chain sag) is
exceeded. Let your dealer regularly check your chain with the appropriate
measuring equipment.
