17.4 MIXTURE ADJUSTMENT
(power model and helicopter model types only)
This function is designed for fine-tuning the fuel mixture at the
carbur
ettor using a separate servo. A special advantage of this
system is the ability to set up an inter
-action with the normal
throttle function. If you activate this option, the needle valve
follows the operation of the throttle servo when you open or
close the throttle, ensuring a reliable motor run when properly
set up. A curve for optimum adjustment of the mixture control
can also be programmed for this linked function. A supple-
mentary acceleration function is also available, ensuring that
the motor picks up speed quickly when you open the throttle.
Mark the ‘Mixture adj.’ option in the Model menu. The screen
display will then look approximately like this:
Please observe the programming procedure described below:
Activate the option
The automatic mixture control function must first be activa-
ted by marking the Status field. The display then changes
from ‘INA
’ (inactive) to ‘ON’, and the option is activated.
Define the mode
As with many other functions, you can define whether the
‘Mixture adjustment’ option is to apply globally (all flight
modes), or separately, i.e. just to the curr
ent flight mode.
Use the ‘Mode’ button field to change this setting; in each
case the setting is shown in graphic form.
Program the curve
First select the (MIX / UNMIX) mixer type. Mark the field in
the appr
opriate line, and the mixer type changes accor
din-
gly. If you select ‘MIX’, the Master data is derived from the
throttle curve you have already programmed. If you opt for
‘UNMIX’, the Master data varies directly according to the
current position of the throttle stick.
The curve is programmed in the first menu level using the
now familiar procedure. The first step is to define the curve
type: mark the appropriate field and select your preference
from the usual array of six curve types. The values are
adjusted exactly as described for programming the Dual
Rate curves. Please refer to this in Section 17.2 on page 58.
Set the trim adjustment mode
The menu features a second level in which you can set the
trim adjustment mode, pr
ogram an acceleration function,
and select settings for particular thr
ottle states. This sub-
menu is accessed by marking the ‘Trim, Acceleration’ but-
ton field in the bottom left corner. The display changes, and
looks similar to the following:
Two adjustment ranges (centre and max.) are available.
‘Max Trim’ works like an ATL trim; it affects the upper
adjustment range only. In each case you can enter a setting
as a percentage value for both ranges, using the familiar
method.
Next you have to select the transmitter control or switch
which is to be used to alter the value. The default setting is
‘NONE’, i.e. the function is permanently switched on. Mark
the field, and the screen displays the switch select menu.
Select your preferred switch using the standard method.
The trim mode can now be changed if desired; two types
are available:
CTRM = Centre Trim: this trim function works around the
centr
e position of the transmitter contr
ol, without affecting
the end-points.
NORM = Normal Trim: the trim range lies symmetrically
ar
ound the centr
e. The selected (fixed) trim range shifts
around the centre, i.e. the servo end-points are also affec-
ted.
Finally, you can define a working range for this option: mark
the appropriate field, and the arrow buttons appear at the
right margin of the screen. The range can be defined within
the limits 0% to 100%; the default setting is 100%. Pres-
sing the ‘Reset’ field restores the default setting.
Set the acceleration function
The centre frame is used for this step in programming.
When the thr
ottle is advanced, the needle valve is opened
in or
der to set a slightly richer mixture; this improves the
motor’s ability to pick up speed. The process is identical to
that already described several times in these instructions:
mark the fields in which changes are to be made, and enter
the new values using the arrow buttons.
The adjustment range is 0% to 100%. When the throttle is
opened, the needle valve servo runs to the set position. At a
setting of 0% the servo runs in parallel with the throttle
servo; at 100% it precedes it by about 10 - 15° before
moving to the set value. The defaults for this option are 0%.
Pressing the ‘Reset’ button restores the default settings.
The acceleration function can be damped, so that the
needle valve setting does not change abruptly to a richer
mixture. This is achieved by marking the appropriate field;
the arrow buttons then appear at the right margin of the
screen. The range can be defined within the limits 0% to
100%; the default is 0%. Pressing the ‘Reset’ field restores
the default setting.
