beveryeﬀecvelycarried outfromthelocaonof theREL. Tryingtoignoreall othermusicin thetrack,

listen forthe bassdrum anditseﬀecton thelisteningroom.

3 Phase Orientaon: Once inthe cornerwe needtoadjustforphase.This maybe thesingle mostcrical

stepand, becauseitreallyis quitesimple, itis oenover-thought.Keepin mind;therightphase is

whicheverposionisthe loudestorfullest.While playing musicwithtrue lowbass,adjust thecrossover

toapoint where the RELand thespeakeraresuretosharefrequencies(about halfway up orslightly

higherforsmallerspeakers).Atthispoint turn theHI/LOWlevelcontrolupso thatboththe RELand

speakerareroughlyequal involumeand thenswitch,usingthe phaseswitch,from“0”to“180” phase

posions.Again,whicheverposionisloudestorfullestisthecorrectposion.Thatis,whentheposion

isworkingin harmonywith yourmainspeakers,reinforcingbass,and notcancellingit.

4 Placement: Thenextstepisto determinepreciselyhow far outfromthecornerthe subshould beplaced

toachievethemosteﬃcientoutput, aswellas thelowestfrequencyextension.With theRELfully into

thecorner,and poinngstraightout alongthediagonal comingoutof thecorner,connuingtoplaythe

music,slowlypull theREL fromthe corneronthe diagonal,equidistantfromboth sideand rear wall. Ata

certainpoint(somemesa maerof onlya fewinches, inrarecasesa footor more)theREL willaudibly

golower,playlouderand, ifit trulylocks-ontothe roomand isfully pressurizing it,theair aroundthe

RELwill seemtobe energized.Stoprightthere!Thisis thecorrectposionfromthe cornerforthe REL.

5 Orientaon: Once theposionfromthe cornerhasbeen established,the orientaonof thewoofermust

bedeterminedbyrotangthe RELfroman imaginedcenterpointattherearof theREL. Asthe RELis

movedfromone sidetothe other,listenforthegreatestlevelof outputand basslinearity.The REL

shouldbe leinthe posionwhereitis playingthe loudestandlowest.

6 Crossover and Level Sengs: Todeterminethe crossoverpoint,takethe volumeofthe REL(using the

HI/LOWLevelcontrol)all thewaydown, andput thecrossoverto 25Hz.Atthispoint, bringtheREL’s

volumebackup slowlytothe pointwhereyou haveachievedasubtle balance,i.e. thepointatwhich

youcanhearthe RELevenwith themainspeakersplaying.Now, bringthecrossoverpointupunl it

isobviouslytoo high;atthis pointbring itdown tothe appropriatelowerseng.Forall intentsand

purposes,thisisthecorrectcrossoverpoint.Oncethisstagehasbeenreached,subtlechangestovolume
