Brakes
General
It is oen good to know which brake lever works on the
front wheel or the rear wheel, so that you will not be
suprised.
Fine tuning the brakes
By the cable adjusterscrew at the brake lever, you can
ne tune most brakes (except coasterbrake). By turning
the adjusterscrew ghter you decrease the tension of
the cable and by turning it open, you give the cable
more tension.
Coasterbrake
A coasterbrake gives a direct, powerful brake feeling
and requires lile maintenance. You can use a
coasterbrake by pedalling the pedals backwards.
V-brake (Rim brake)
V-brakes are lightweight and provide a good sense
of control. You can use the V-brakes by using the
brakelevers. When there is too much wear (if the
notches are no longer visible), the brake pads must be
replaced.
The brake pads must be mounted so that the blocks
hit the side completely by pressed-in brakelevers.
The cable that can be adjusted with the adjustment
screw, needs to be at the right tension where there is
the same amount of space between both the brake
pads and the rim. If this is not the case, you can center
the brake by adjusng the screws on the sides of the
V-brake.
The possible present Shimano ‘Power-Modulator
provides a smoother brake force when braking hard.
The Power-Modulator is by some models connected to
the V-brake of the front wheel.
