4.1 Placing the machine
A
Caution!
Always stand machine on its
feet only.
The machine draws in air at its front
and bottom, which is given off
through the ventilating slots at the
rear. Ensure an unhindered airflow.
The distance of the machine to walls
or other equipment must be at least
20 cm/8".
4.2 Other connectors
A
Caution!
When connecting the welding
cables observe the required polarity
for the desired welding process and
electrodes to be used.
Stick electrode welding
Prior to initial start-up:
1. Connect welding return cable to -
pole.
2. Connect welding cable to + pole.
Gas-shielded arc welding
Prior to initial start-up:
1. Connect reinforced pressure hose to
pressure regulator.
2. Connect welding return cable to +
pole.
3. Connect TIG torch welding current
cable to - pole.
4. Connect TIG torch pilot lead.
5. Connect TIG torch gas line.
All machine functions are controlled by
the four buttons Mode, +, - and Parame-
ter at the front panel. Any invalid actua-
tion of a button is indicated on the LED
display by 3 bars (---).
After turning ON all LEDs will illuminate
briefly. The display shows
briefly the software version in the
format X.X, then
the most recently set welding cur-
rent.
Condition:
the selftest was completed succes-
fully.
3
Note:
Operating modes and parame-
ters can only be changed if no welding
process is active.
An exeption is the parameter welding
current. This value can be changed
while welding.
5.1 Operating modes
To select, press the Mode button as
often as necessary, until the LED indi-
cating the desired operating mode is lit.
2T + HF
Operating mode for TIG welding in 2-
step mode with HF-ignition.
Press button of TIG torch (Start/
Stop button).
The welding process starts at the
fixed starting current.
After ignition the current slopes
up to the preset welding current
within the preset up^slope time.
Release Start/Stop button.
The welding process ends after the
preset downslope time.
4T + HF
Operating mode for TIG welding in 4-
step mode with HF-ignition.
Press button of TIG torch (Start/
Stop button).
The welding process starts.
As long as the Start/Stop button
is held down the arc is burning at
the fixed starting current.
After releasing the pushbutton,
the current slopes up to the pre-
set welding current within the pre-
set upslope time.
Press button again.
The welding current falls down to
the preset end current within the
preset downslope time.
While the button is pressed the
arc continues to burn at the end
current (crater filling).
Releasing the button ends the
welding process.
Stick electrode welding
Operating mode for stick electrode weld-
ing with integrated Hot-start and Anti-
stick function.
Stick electrode welding with Arc-
force.
Stick electrode welding mode, but with
additional Arc-force function.
During the welding process the machine
keeps the energy (heat) brought into the
weld metal at a constant level, even if
the distance between electrode and
weld pool varies.
3
Note:
For stick electrode welding the
machine uses always both the Hot-start
and Anti-stick function.
Hot-start function
When contacting the weld metal with the
electrode, the set welding current is
increased for a short period to ensure the
arc will start.
The brief increase of the welding current is
limited to the maximum electrode current.
Anti-stick function
If the machine detects a short-circuit in
the welding process, it will switch after
0.5 second to minimum current to pre-
vent electrode burn-out.
5.2 Parameters
Press the Parameter button repeatedly,
until the LED of the desired parameter is
lit. The value currently set for this parame-
ter is immediately shown on the display.
Using the + and - buttons the current
parameter value is changed. The dis-
played values are immediately adopted
by the control. A confirmation of the
input is not required.
27 Fault indicator
LED lid:
Machine has detected a
fault and shuts down.
28 Excess temperature indicator
LED illuminated:
Excess temperature fuse
tripped and control disa-
bled.
29 Master switch
Switches unit ON or OFF
30 Socket for remote control unit
31 Gas supply connector
32 Power supply cable
LED = Light-Emitting Diode, used as
indicator light.
